Putting the TV series aside for a second, i've always thought it would be cool to see the FMV game remastered. I know it was shot SD but it could look a lot better and with Blu's Java capabilities wouldn't it be feasible the game interface could work? Be a damn sight more fun than the DVD games... Just a dream of mine, i liked that game, and this is the section for wishing.

I still have that game somewhere for my Playstation. Here is the Wiki entry
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_X-Files_Game

Quote:
During the course of the game the "present day" date of April 1996 is displayed alongside certain locations, placing this "episode" after the season three episode "Avatar" and before "Wetwired" , which take place March 7 and April 27 respectively. This time is also after the first incident with the alien black oil in the episode "Piper Maru" of the third season.
The Wiki states that Mulder and Scully had cameos which I had forgotten.

I loved that Resident-Evil-like "X Files Resist or Serve" PS2 game. I never got to finish it as I was close to the end and then got stuck in a situation where I didn't have enough ammo.

Like everyone else, I am patiently (actually impatiently) waiting for the release of The X-files on Blu, and in fact am holding off on buying the set on DVD because I don't want to double-dip (though I've seen the entire series several times, I've never owned the DVD's). These screen-shots are stunning, as always.

Obviously, nice additions/bonuses to the series itself would be both X-files films (1998 & 2008) on Blu as well...

These screen grabs are amazing...then you look at the Buffy thread.

Same could be said for The Simpsons (early seasons). Both X-Files and Simpsons would have huge sales, I'd bet. These aren't niche shows that only a handful of people watch. I can understand a studio like Fox not wanting to release a niche show to Blu-ray, but this isn't one.

Yeah the plot was Mulder and Scully went missing and you had to find them and figure out what was going on. Skinner played a decent sized role as well as Mr X and CSM, and it was produced by the team working on the show so it matched perfectly. It was a really well produced game, it would be nice if they remastered it, you could probably even just edit it together into a decent feature length episode. Although it wouldn't surprise me if they've lost the master tapes to be honest.

I'm surprised everyone is so impressed with the screen shots. They look like upconverted DVDs to me. Maybe a tad better than DVD.

Edit: To clarify I was referring to the earlier screen shots in this thread, not the recent German ones. I didn't realize there were two different sources and was going by memory, and if you look back at the earlier screen shots they're upscaled from SD.

Thanks very much for posting the comparison pics. - obviously, the HD screenshot is far superior to the DVD screenshot. Wow, what a huge difference...I like how you can see more of the walls both behind & in front of the characters in the HD screenshot...

Going along with this, all of these HD screen shots are going a long way towards making me agree with those who want the earlier seasons in the 16X9 format (instead of the 4:3 full-screen format, as they were seen when aired). Just because the picture wasn't seen that way when originally on TV, 16X9 will obviously look better now since everyone (or almost everyone) has widescreen sets...

Dammit I knew there was something vital missing when I first saw these. The framing in the 4x3 is shocking for missing this out..

Well, I think the HD shot is interesting; for one thing, you can see the newspapers on the wall behind Mulder. Sure, you're not missing that much if you just see the full-screen shot, but this is just one example of one scene in one episode. I'm sure if we saw more comparisons between the HD & the DVD screenshots we would see more significant differences...IIRC, there are other ones earlier in this thread.

Again, it's a matter of personal preference. If they decide to release A Blu set with the first several seasons in 4:3 (as it was aired on TV), that would be fine and it would still be a Day 1 purchase for me...if the PQ was at least as good as what we see in these HD screenshots...

I don't think we've been looking at the same screenshots. I've got nothing against the DVD sets, but the screen-grabs in this thread have been a revelation. Maybe it's just me.

Im just making fun - sorry

but I do want a 4x3 release. The X Files is one of my favourite shows and I'm all for an HD release, but I will be very disappointed if an eventual Bluray release alters the OAR, especially since it involved the best seasons of the show. More disappointed than the Buffy debacle.

DVD:

HD:

The HD version is like night and day. I didn't even know Mulder had a pattern on his suit with the DVD version (zoom in).

Yes, HUGE difference - Thanks for posting both screen shots. The DVD definitely looks blurry.

It just goes to show you how spoiled we all (and I definitely am including myself in this category) have gotten with Blu-rays/HD. I remember when I first started watching the X-file DVD's in the early 2000's, I was impressed by how much better the PQ was in comparison to seeing the show on network TV in the early '90's (of course, I never had cable, so the network TV PQ was especially terrible)...

I'm a supporter of the 16:9 ratio. My reasoning is because Ten Thirteen (production company ) shot The X-Files episodes in 16:9 but the Fox network refused to air them in widescreen but chose the 4:3 ratio instead. Their artistic intention was to have it viewed in widescreen. Later when medical dramas (ER/Chicago Hope) aired in widescreen format Fox decided that The X-Files should be broadcast in widescreen as well.

Good point, and I agree. And, at this point, since we've all seen these X-files HD screen shots (whether or not we've seen the show itself on HD), it will be tough to watch the series in the 4:3 aspect ratio for the first several seasons, even though that's how it aired....

IIRC, ER was filmed in widescreen from the beginning of the series (Fall 1994). I never saw the show on TV, but when I started watching the DVD's they were all widescreen. Great choice, since each episode was like watching a mini-film....

I can't remember from which documentary or behind the scenes interview the aspect ratio was talked about, but I thought that was stupid move on the networks part.
