Wow I can't believe I found this thread. A MASSIVE X Files fan since a young boy when it first aired here in the UK. I recently sold my X Files dvd sets because I have itching to re watch the series from the beginning but with all the blu ray teases kicking around the last couple of years I wanted to wait.

Reading through this thread has been great in that I have found a whole community as frustrated as myself so I don't feel so alone lol. It has also been a nightmare as it has just escalated my X Files blu needs to fever pitch!

So hi everyone!

COME ON FOX. I will forgive you the Firefly fiasco once and for all if you give me X Files on blu. Deal?

As I watch the episodes, you can see some episodes just weren't fully converted. But keep in mind, its like less than 20% of an episode WHEN you run into an episode that has this. And I didn't start seeing this still Season 2. And even then, its only a hand-full of episodes of Season 2. Perhaps these shots have something specific to them, IE; CGI/Post Editing?

I'm not complaining at all, its X-Files, its Widescreen, and its High Definition. Keep em coming I say!

Same deal for me, but only if you also give us a proper release for Buffy (without all the issues from the Pivot broadcasts, and the option for 4:3).

I think both fandoms can convince Fox to do things right.

I know I'm in the minority thinking this but as good as season 3 is, it has more average episodes that I didn't care for then seasons 1, 2 and 4 which are more consistent in terms of quality IMO.

I don't care for the self aware full on tongue in cheek comedic episodes. I know what they are trying to do but they feel more like cheaply written parodies. I do like the small doses of humor with the one-liners which often comes from Mulder in the show though.

So Seasons 6 & 7 are a no go for you they really ramp up the comedy post-movie.

Haha, I don't think I could ever sell mine. It took me years to get all the digipak editions

Ha, yeah it was hard to sell (especially as they dont sell for much these days) but I just knew I would finish the last episode of season 9 and they would announce the blu set.

Now however i have a feeling in five years time when there is still no sign of these I will be searching ebay for the dvds again. But I really want to hold out, these screen caps look stunning.

I'm with you - these fully comedic episodes are the ONLY aspects of X-files I don't like. I actually prefer the last two seasons with Patrick/Gish/Anderson more than the latter seasons with Duchovny/Anderson, since IMHO Seasons 8 & 9 somewhat brought the show back to it's "roots", were overall very serious, and IMHO produced some extremely good episodes..

In any case, X-files is still one of my top five favorite TV series, and IMHO one of the best TV shows ever made...

Haven't seen them since I was a kid, but I did pick up season 6 on DVD a little back since it was so cheap. How does the first movie go in terms of tone? I also picked that one up on DVD due to the low price.

I would say the tone of Fight The Future is similar to that of the 90s Brady Bunch movies: very comedic and tongue-in-cheek, yet respectful. It's a must watch.

The Brady Bunch movies? HUH?

Great film (unlike the 2nd one) and, yes, a must watch but really nothing like the Brady Bunch films at all.

Maybe The Beverly Hillbillies.

Being that there are only a handful of such episodes, and the humor always stems from clashing points of view and recollections, I find those episodes to be very refreshing. Of course, getting back to business as usual is all fine and good, but every once in a while, I enjoy the more playful episodes.

I really like the more playful episodes too. It shows a willing on the crews part to keep the show fresh and be a bit more daring, something many shows with many seasons lack.

On an unrelated note I watched the pilot for CC new show yeasterday after reading good reviews and It was soooooo bad. Like really bad. I cannot believe that came from the same guy that gave us the X Files!!

I like the comic ones too, especially from Darin Morgan and Vince Gilligan.

The standalone and comedic episodes are my favorites and the ones I rewatch the movie. I love the mythology ones as well, but they aren't as much fun to watch over and over again. I don't know how many times I've watch Post Modern Prometheus or Jose Chung's From Outer Space, but it's a lot.

I loved the comedic episodes in season 3 and 5, but season 7 had too many of them and a serious lack of creepy episodes.

I concur though I still enjoyed Season 7 immensely.

(...as seen on my Pronto remote when browsing for a disc to play.)

I don't care if they release this series in reverse....JUST RELEASE IT! PLEASE!

With The Sopranos on the way, both The X-Files & The Wire seemingly right there for taking, it's enough to drive one crazy.
