I received a Sony DVD player as a X-mas gift in '99. Started collecting New releases on DVD on day one with Detroit Rock City. Didn't upgrade to blu ray until 2011 when I also upgraded to HD tvs. And then in 2018 I purchased an 82" Samsung QLED 4K,along with LG 4K blu ray player and Yamaha 4K receiver. I've watched dvds on my new setup and can really tell the difference. But I'm not one to spend $20-30 on a new 4K release of a movie that I already have on DVD or blu ray. The only time I purchase movies that I already have is when it's an incredible leap in video audio improvement over the DVD or if it's a cheap price (from DVD to blu ray). I did, however, but the Criterion edition of A Hard Day's Night when I already had the blu ray version of it. But price was half off, and it's The Beatles. SUPERIOR picture over the one I got from Amazon in 2013, which has French language on cover. My question is this: how many times will you purchase the same movie?

So I didn't really get into steelbooks until a couple years ago when Best Buy put all of those Disney/Marvel steelbooks on sale. I had maybe between 15-20 before that.
But that sale brought me into getting my first 4k blurays. And it got me upgrading a lot more of my blurays to 4k. I tend to only upgrade a bluray to 4k now if its a steelbook release or if the standard 4k is really really cheap. And it got me getting bluray steelbooks of blurays I didn't own and some I already owned if its a movie I really like. Sometimes I'll skip a 4k steelbook if I think the price is too much if its a movi. Sometimes I regret doing this......Mortal Kombat(2021), Godzilla vs Kong, Soul. And I'd still like to complete my Mcu 4k collection. Still need Thor Ragnorak, Guardians 2 and Antman and Wasp but the prices are pretty high. Guardians 2 isn't too bad for the bluray version though which is essentially the same case. If its below $25 and a movie i own on bluray ill upgrade to the steelbook usually 90% of the time. And some above that I will too but a little more choosey. |

For instance old movies shoted on film will have usually great improvements by the 4k restoration. |
