What are your rarest blu ray Steelbooks ?

That's a good point. Thanks to the Internet, you can get pretty much anything you want whenever you want it... if you can afford it, that is.

I don't think I have anything that's really rare. Maybe Capt. Phillips BB Steelbook or Thor 2 BB Steelbook, but that's about it. I don't import anything and I've only recently begun collecting within the last year or so.

Its expensive because it is quite rare. If there was copies all over the place they wouldnt be so expensive. And a bunch of copies on ebay hardly constitutes easily available. They are probably all from the same scalper. Try to find a FS IM for a sane price, thats rare.

Not always the case. There is an illusion among collectors that IM has a higher desirability than others due to the popularity of the brand name which makes it easier to sell at that price point compared to, say, Rambo. It is also overhyped in this forum that it is the grail of whatever.

Do you know how many copies were initially produced?

There are quite a few copies around, just a very quick search shows four on ebay US. I'm sure if you spent an hour of looking, you could find dozens available online.

In this case, I believe it is expensive because of its perceived "rarity" and lots of hype from places like this.

I suppose time will tell.

I have 2 Sucker Punch Comic-Con exclusive Steelbooks. The only one I've opened has a minor dent on the front and a couple paint chips. The other seems pristine but I really couldn't say until I take off the wrapping, or someone else does.

That said, only 900 were ever made, so I have 1/450th of the world's supply.

Next rarest is/will be the Frozen Ultimate Edition from BluFans, given how few will escape China.

Others of note include Aladdin Zavvi Exclusive and Tangled KimchiDVD Lenticular Exclusive.

Complicating things is that we never really know how many of a particular exclusive, Steelbook or otherwise, is ever really made unless the retailer or manufacturer says so (like Zavvi). In the US all we have are educated guesses mostly, even with help from some insiders.

That Sucker Punch steelbook comes to mind but the fact that it is G1 sized and the fact it is not Iron Man then it pales in comparison to the FS Iron Man. Comes back to the desirability factor. However, I still consider it rare and hard to find but it's value cannot be compared to Iron Man.

Uk version of cap 2 is 6000 units. But it's the same sb as everyone else everywhere else apart from the US...

The rarest I can think if is FS Deathly Hallows Part 1, the only one I'm missing, there's one on eBay for sale right now but from what I've seen, there's no more than one for sale each month, people simply don't wanna get rid of them. The one I saw last sold for 260. I know that's not HMV Thor or FS IM1 price range, but the fact that I almost never see them for sale makes it rare for me.

As for the rarest I own, I don't really own anything I consider rare, I don't even own 50 steelbooks. If I had to pick it'd be FS Deathly Hallows Part 2, maybe Thor 2 BB, and maybe my Halo Legends BB. The Halo one was also my first steelbook and is still definitely a favorite.

Everyone talks about the Sucker Punch being G1-sized, but frankly they needed that room to put all the custom artwork in. Everything in the Steelbook is completely custom. It really is a work of art, and represents everything a Steelbook should be but rarely is.

Found that sucker at a local flea market two weeks ago for like $2, in mint condition somehow - just stacked in a box with a bunch of random DVDs. It's a keeper for me too
