Default RightStuf to distribute all of Gundam in North America

Well here is a turn up for the books I never thought I'd see this happen but Right stuff has appeared to have signed a license agreement for the entire Gundam franchise on Blu-ray and DVD for North America

It's been posted in this thread already.

Started at post #21290

But good that it has its own thread so we can discuss it here.

Can we get a thread title change: RightStuf is going to distribute all of Gundam in North America? RightStuf is distributing all of Gundam in North America but Sunrise of Japan will be releasing and manufacturing the sets themselves so they will be products from the company that owns the rights in Japan. Which is something that may be more promising for quality releases and consistency between them as they have been doing this in Japan for the bulk of the franchise history.

This way we can keep up the positive vibes about Gundam being released in Blu-ray HD, as it seems all of us around here are hoping for... and frankly, which I am expecting now that it's clear that RightStuf is not doing the manufacturing themselves.

I've never seen Gundam.. I have seen trailers for it and Gundam Wing though, and it looks like something I would be in to.

Well its promising to say the least I may have been a little incorrect to say they licensed it but a distribution deal is the next best thing the only thing we have to pray for is it doesn't share Japans price point for discs.

The Gundam franchise coming to Blu-ray in the United States is one of the things I most wanted to happen as far as anime properties go. Actually, for any release to arrive in HD (anime or otherwise), this was one of my most wanted. And the fact that Sunrise is releasing these themselves makes me feel a sense of reassurance that the quality might match the JP editions. Which is certainly a good thing.

I don't think we can fit all of that in there.

HA! Yeah, well, I think you got the part I was referring to. That would be an awesome thread title though.

I know right, that title is confusing. Before I read the article, I thought RightStuf was releasing this*, but after reading the article I realized they aren't. Just distributing it.

*Since they do have their own studios. (three of them)

In any case, the thread title has been updated and it more properly reflects things as they stand.

It's an important distinction as RightStuf's Nozomi Entertainment has suggested before that they might release Blu-ray's but they never actually have and don't seem to show any interest in doing so, whereas it's highly likely that Sunrise will pursue releasing Gundam titles on Blu-ray if a HD master exists.

There's a chance Reconguista in G is not going to be distributed by RightStuf.

Quote:
The company is also working with a U.S. distributor to release Gundam: Reconguista in G in North America. Sunrise did not announce which company would release the series.

Gundam has the luxury of not being blocked by a crooked company more interested in rolling over a man's grave and committing real estate fraud than in profits from licensing.

I've only seen Gundam Wing, and it's one of my fav. animes. I've gone through my DVD's twice now, and I've been meaning to see them again. It would be awesome to get it on BD

I'm glad someone made a thread for this. Probably wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

Yup, definitely preordering every single one as they're released...get ready bank account...

First Hellsing Ultimate, then Bebop, and now this.

I might double dip on the movie trilogy only if it includes the hilarious dub with British Bright and Steve Blum Char.

Did anyone like SD? Super Deformed Gundam. It was interesting, but I didn't like it as much as others.

The original cell-drawn shorts or the CG cell-shaded show that aired on Toonami?

I've never seen the former, but I saw a few episodes of the latter and good lord, it was terrible.

You mean Doozy Bots?

I hope Doozy Bots will someday end up on Blu-ray.
