Default Tartan Bittersweet Life?

I recently received A Bittersweet Life Tartan DVD edition. Supposedly it's Region 0 and Pal-Region Free. Can I play this on my regular DVD player or Sony Blu-Ray (not region free)? I thought for sure they told me when I bought this it was region free. I'm so pissed. When I pop it in it cannot read the disc. I probably just screwed myself. Any suggestion besides telling me to buy a region free player?

When the disc says it's Region 0 you do not need to have a region free player.
I have a bunch of Region 0 imports that I can play fine on either a stand-alone R1 DVD player or my R1 PS3.

Are you able to test a different player? Might just be an issue with that one?
Any damage to the disc?

No not at all. It says on the back of the DVD Region 0, but PAL.

That's the problem then. Can't play a PAL disc on NTSC players. So if you're looking for a multiregion player now also make sure its multiformat.

Not every DVD player is like this, but I've owned several region all and region 1 DVD players like this. Some DVD players can play PAL formatted DVDs. Your remote should have a button called "System". The "System" button should be set to "NTSC". It changes the DVD player's setting to convert the PAL video to NTSC. On the several we had that were Region All, they would be set to "Multi" by the manufacture. Multi will have it play which ever the disc is formatted in; change it to NTSC.
