Since Dynaudio has finally gotten some attention here, I would like to start a thread, thereby increasing awareness of these fabulous speakers.
Model Overview: 1977, a group of engineers in Skanderborg, Denmark, sharing a passion for music mutual conclusion that even the best loudspeakers available at the time were incapable of playing without colouration. Phase shifts, propagation distortion and poor transient response were measurable and audible with virtually all loudspeakers. A new company was formed to change all this: Dynaudio, dedicated to Authentic Fidelity. While the intricate nature of the details of the construction might easily be overlooked, the results will undoubtedly be seen, felt, and above all heard. Lifelike sound - perfectly natural, realistic and dynamic; tonal accuracy without any harshness or boom; each Dynaudio model offers an incomparable musical experience: Experience the difference at your Dynaudio specialist retailer, and naturally, in the comfort of your own home. Rhett, this is an awesome page. I cannot wait too hear many of these speakers. I would love to be able to afford the Focus or Excites one day.
Who knows, maybe I will just get the Focus 110s and the center and use my A2-300 for 2.1 music. How are the Focus 110s for 2-channel? Have you heard them for HT ever? If so, how are they for that too. |

The Focus 110s are extremely musical, dynamic and fun for 2 channel. It is coherent and detailed yet not analytical to recordings and demanding of electronics. I would like to add that the Focus series is a little on the "forward"/warm side/ of neutral. They will project a solid wall of sound and will easily pressurize a medium sized room and will do extremely well with HT. Apart from the Confidence series, the Focus series is my other favorite. If my wife would allow it, I'd start a second a second system with the Focus 110s as mains ![]() |

Nice thread and pics! These speakers definately deserved some recognition. I am limited to only having heard the Focus series...particularly the 220 II and the 140, so I can only comment on them. They were paired with Krell stereo amplification...model number is uncertain. I would describe both of them as being very pleasant sounding and coherent throughout the entire range, with an ease about thier presentation. They just sound amazing with stringed acoustical instruments. Naturally, the 220s had better extension with the bass guitars than the bookshelves but the 140s were no slouch by any means.
These speakers really shine playing a wide variety of music. I demo-ed alot of classic rock, blues and a little metal. Jimmy Page's solo in "Stairway to Heaven" was killer on the 220s but it was the intro that showed the warmth and detailed nature of these speakers. Female vocals had such silky smooth and airy top end without any hint of harshness whatsoever. Probably due to those excellent tweeters the dyns use. No, I didn't try any Janis Joplin either. I don't think many speakers can handle her. ![]() I noted that they also seemed to have wide fulfilling soundstage, so placement shouldn't be difficult. The room just filled up with sound...even with the 140s. It was a fairly large demo room with acoustical panels all around. it was much bigger than my area, so I could probably settle with the 110/140s for a front end (for now). Being as I will be incorporating it into a 5.1 setup, I just may go that route. I just loved those 220s with 2 channel. Maybe if I can designate a listening room with just a 2 channel setup and some monoblock amps, I will do that someday. These speakers pretty much handled everything I threw at them with ease. They are truly amazing. I feel like I left some details out but it's kinda difficult to describe ,in words, the sonic characteristics of loudspeakers. I would suggest to those who are considering purchasing a musical set of floorstanders, to step outside of the box and give the Dynaudios a listen. They just might suprise you. ![]() Last edited by gamebred; 01-24-2010 at 06:11 AM. |

as already mentioned, great job on the dynaudio thread! very informational and objective!
Callas01, these (focal 110's) are THE choice speakers imo for 2 channel listening via bookshelves. amazing speakers and would definitely fit your taste to a TEE. i strongly recommend you have the chance to audition them. (not listen to them, but take time slowly like barry white does with the ladies... ![]() |

They are fun. This is why I liked them. ![]() I am hoping I'll run across a used pair of 220s over the summer. They're getting really hard to find, though. I would be just as happy with the 140's, I know I would. ...it's just a nice thought having a beautiful pair of floorstanders sitting in my living room. ![]() |

I heard the 110 at the same time i heard the 140's. From that moment i fell in love with thos speakers. My dealer said it will be overkill for surrounds but i don't want to believe him..
![]() In my expirience the 110 just sound a little bit "smaller" then the 140. |

Great thread!
I have owned a few Dynaudio speakers including Audience 50s Contour 1.3 MkIs and my current Contour 1.3 SEs. No other speaker company has captivated me the way Dynaudio has. The Audience 50s while some of their most inexpensive speakers were astonishingly good and they represent a great value used. The Contour and Focus series are a definite step up in refinement and are near world-class speakers. The only problem with Dynaudio speakers are that upgrading can be a bit pricey. If you ever have the opportunity to listen to the Contour 1.3 SE it will not leave you dissappointed. I love mine they have a level of competence and coherency that is about as good as anything south of $5000.00. I was skeptical of the improvement that they could offer over the original Contour 1.3 but the improvement in ALL areas was dramatic. From top to bottom the 1.3 SE was superior. (Not to mention they are beautifully finished in piano black lacquer.) The depth and power of the bass is shocking, the mids are glorious and the highs are ethereal. The only caveat is that they are power hogs. They really came to life when I paired them with the Krell KAV-300iL. The Krell's prodigous output IMO works very well with Dynaudio giving an authorative presentaion. To the other Dyn owners on the forum: Enjoy your fantastic speakers and let's spread the word. To prospective Dynaudio owners: What are you waiting for? Keep your eyes peeled on Audiogon. Some really great deals come up from time to time. Look for some Audiences or older Contours. And don't be afraid to try the monitors though small they can hang with most and beat many floorstanding speakers in authority, they sound very big when driven by a strong amplifier. |

Tomorow i will demo the SUB500.
![]() If you like i can post my findings of the sub on the forum. There is one thing that bugs me, and that is that the sub500 can't be sold anymore in the EU. In the Netherlands were i live there are only two left in the colour i like ![]() So maybe i will buy both of them....... ![]() |
