Digital is already, and will continue to be the leader in Cinema sales, whether you convert or not.

You are obviously smart enough to know that eventually a higher def movie will no longer fit on a disc, probably after UHD, unless they do something drastic and go to a UHD disc the size of a Laser Disc.

You are comparing two different formats. Compare it to Bluray nothing else.

Bluray can also go up. Some BBC discs for example are much higher than 30mbps I believe.

This is a big issue for me. Digital content is convenient. That is about it. Often these cost the same as the Blu-ray new. The sale prices I see on iTunes only ever get to $9.99. But if any of you go read some comparisons over at AVS Forum, they show you how much detail is being lost compared to the Blu-ray. You're basically getting short-changed. But like I said, if convenience is more important, then there is nothing wrong with the digital downloads. Then add in on top of that, all of them are DRM-protected and there isn't a DRM system that works across all platforms. If you buy it on iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, etc; you're locked into that system to access your content.

Being locked into one system does suck. I have 700+ on VUDU, but with me having an Android phone, Android tablet, Android TV built into my TV, payment through Sprint, and just and awesome interface I'd love to switch to Google Play. However with what I have in VUDU it just isn't practical. It is bad enough UV basically is what it is now with nobody else joining. I hate being locked to one provider if they aren't UV.

Neither was I, you just need to look at the sheer numbers of Blu Ray's that are receiving upgraded transfers either better encode or full on new scan from the negative.

While this is rare, and it sucks.....

Over a year or two ago I started collecting digital over physical (mostly due to the sale thread) and converting my blu's via D2D. It is much cheaper to get a digital copy for $5 instead of the physical for $20. Now, it probably won't always work this way...

Anyway, we have moved across the country last year and we put quite a bit of our stuff in storage. Last month, some awesome people broke into our unit and went shopping. I have no idea what all is missing, but I do know that at least 250 blu's and HD-DVD are gone, probably more. I am most disappointed about our Disney collection. I am not happy by any means, but thankfully, I have nearly all of them on digital. In my situation, I am glad I have digital copies.

Your not taking into account the restorations done specifically for the Blu Ray format by companies such as Arrow, Criterion, Moc, Synapse and many more.

All of them have multiple distribution channels. For example, Criterion is on all popular digital stores and even Hulu, and quite a few of their HD masters were never released on Blu-ray. In the future, they will probably move into making UHD masters, which will be primarly distributed through online channels.

Not if done correctly and if it is yes it does. Why wouldn't it?

REC 709 is perfectly OK for HD. I would have preferred an open or variable colour space for UHD (and not 2020) but there you are.

You know, it’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since Blu-ray first came out, but although I still call it a niche, 10 years is pretty damn good for a niche market.

I guess it’s definitely time for UHD or digital to come out, which ever is your preference!
