I like the idea, but the problem I have with this is seeing the black bar between the steelbooks. I don't find that aesthetically pleasing. I'd end up wanting to embed the bars into the wall! If they made 4 or 5 inch bars that would work for me.

The problem I have is ... Dust. I keep mine in sealed containers and some times just like staring at the steelbook artwork rather than watching the actual film.

That's cool man. Little projects like that are the best, and keep you entertained. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Wow! Cool project! I'm just starting my L-shaped, glass doors Billy bookcase project too for my steel books so they don't get dusty. Yes I'm also tired of viewing them in just their spines. The front covers must be seen! You have a neat project going on here.

JJ: once again you have given me a stiffie with another "pure genious" project.

I went nuts over your digital movie poster display and this magnetic steelbook concept is brilliant.

I actually love the fact that the velvet-covered magnetic bars can be seen between the steelbooks. I did find it a little odd that you are using two shorter magnetic bars... I would want them to all be the same (wider) bars. I am sure you have a reason for using the short ones.

Another fantastic solution! Keep up the excellent work JJ.

Thanks so much for posting your display, went out last week and bought myself some tool holders and the result is above. I don't have enough room to display my whole collection but I'm chuffed with it regardless.

So many great ideas in this thread! I have a side wall in my office that isn't very big due to the triple door opening and this would be a cool way to fill it with my steels.

Any reviews on the Harbor Freight metal bars? Would you guys say they are of similar quality to the ones at Home Depot? I have had mixed purchases with HF and if they aren't up to snuff I'd rather just go with the Home Depot ones.

Hey comet! Thanks again, lol. I have one of a different size, that was a 17" bar I grabbed at Home Depot first to do a "test" of the project before I invested in more 24" bars. Then I was just stuck with it, but I'll replace it soon enough.

This is what it looks like now. I just bought 2 more 24"s to finish it off.

Awesome, Dazzler! Glad it inspired someone else.

Bars are bars! I wouldn't worry too much about it if you plan on wrapping them up in velvet anyway. Just ensure your wall mounting is up to par, and you'll be golden!

This is why i love coming on this board.

Are they easy to remove from the magnets. I wouldn't wanna pull off a sb and rip it to bits. Also assuming that it works with j card or plastic sleeve?

That's why I wrapped them in velvet, to prevent any metal on metal damage .

The magnets ate strong enough for plastic sleeves and j cards .

It's amazing JJ. I love how you centered the shorter (top) bar magnet and that it showcases your Dark Knight trilogy of steelbooks. It looks fantastic!

One follow-up question: can you provide a link to the actual velvet tape product that you purchased to cover the bar magnets? Is it self-adhesive backed? If not, what did you use to affix the velvet tape to the bar magnets?

In my home theater room I have blank walls behind floor-to-ceiling black curtains. It would be a fantastic location for me to mount bar magnets and display the best of the best of my steelbooks. They would look great when the curtains are open.

Speaking of curtains, I am researching remote controlled motorized curtain rods. I am considering hanging velvet curtains in front of my 125-inch projection screen.

Another project I hope to accomplish is to build my own light box so I can hang a 6-foot-tall by 4-foot-wide bus shelter poster of Rocket and Groot (Guardians of the Galaxy) in my townhouse stairwell. It have to build it so it can allow for the option to swap out the poster if I ever decide to do so.

Thanks again for sharing your innovative and artistic projects, and for being an inspiration to many of the members on this forum.

Bam!

http://www.amazon.com/Carls-Projecto...dp/B00JF7IXXU/

I had leftovers from a projector screen project I made. All you need is the 2" stuff.

It is basically velvet tape. Velvety stuff on one side (not real, I dont think) and self adhesive on the other.

Hey! I live in a townhouse too and I want to come up with some creative ideas for my stairway, right now I just have a pair of acoustical panels and two posters in it. Maybe that'll be the next place I need to come up with something creative.

Thanks for the compliments, =)

Updated pic. Magnets have been up well over a year now and still work great. Although I don't want to see the magnets between the steels so I painted over them and they blend in.

I made one more on the opposite wall. Don't have enough SBs yet to do a 7-row setup yet, so I'm keeping it at 4 for now.
