Looks like they might be a set of IKEA Dioder light strips.

^^^^^^ Yes indeed, ikea diode strips. Came with 4 strips and a dial box that lets dial whatever color or presets that change color fast or slow fade from color to color.

Normal bookcases plus roll of 3M magnetic tape (magnet on one side/ adhesive on the other)

Results in

Titles of which can be switched around. And you can still easily access the movies behind the steels by lifting them off the magnetic strips to reveal the spines.

Two questions about this idea:

1) Has anyone thought about the possibility of acidity in the velvet material or from the adhesive backing damaging the steels over time? I would almost be inclined to use a cotton wrapping around the bar that is stitched in the back to eliminate any risk.

2) Any thought as to if the magnet pulling across a small diameter will warp the steel over time? I'm no physicist, but it certainly crossed my mind.

I've had em up for a year now, and no damage to anything yet, not the steelbooks or the discs themselves. And no, #2 is just silly, lol. I just checked them since I was adding even more bars yesterday. I keep getting stilberks.

(ignore the string/weight on the second picture, thats how i made a bootleg 60" level to line them all up lol)

That is gorgeous!! I love the way that looks, so clean and organized. I was going to do something similar to that with movie posters. I think I'll go with steels instead.

Alright guys, it's been another 8 months, and I've now completely covered my movie room in these. I have enough for 80+ Steelbooks now.

It's been two years. No damage to the back of any steels or discs inside. No residue. And no warp to the steel. These are silly concerns, btw.

Hey I just have a couple questions if you don't mind JJ.

I know you said there is 18" and 24" I only see 18" at Harbor Freight, where did you get the 24" versions, somewhere online or Home Depot or something?

The harbor freight bars say 3" in the description and you said you only need 2" tape, are the bars just not fully covered in tape? Or are the bars actually 2" instead of 3". They don't look 3" from the pictures.

Anyway thanks a lot man this is a great idea and looks amazing. Well done!

Picked up a magnetic strip today...now I just have to find the proper spot where I can drill it into the wall.

The Harbor Freight strips are not magnetic through the whole length, the section for mounting is off to the side.

I use these -

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007STK3TO/

24" bars, from Amazon. I have two 17s I bought from Home Depot. The front of the bars are covered in tape. The top and bottom are maybe 3/4" of the way covered, wrapping around. 2" should be enough. I recommend Carl's Velvet Tape, it's the only one I've used, and doesn't leave a residue.

Post pics when you've done yours!

None of the ones are magnetic throughout the whole length.

If you look at my earlier images on this thread, you will see gaps between the magnets.

Will definitely post some pics thanks again for the help!

EDIT: Went with the Harbor Freight bars posted earlier, after seeing them in person they are great. VERY strong, alittle more narrow than the ones you have unfortunately so that might hurt the aesthetic but we'll see. I bought 8 for 28$ - 18" bars. On sale in store for 3.99 and I used that coupon to get one of them free.

The Carl's tape is on the way I'll let you know how it goes!!

Thanks again for the help JJ

Can confirm Harbor Freight bars have magnets back to back across the entire length. No gaps. Only the very end where the mounting holes are obviously
