If they have included all the extras and the Tom Baker Years that will definitely save me shelf space. Does that include special editions ?

Definitely buying, either way.

Just ordered it here & it stayed at 39.99 throughout for me. My confirmation email says 39.99, blu-ray & limited edition packaging.

£39.99 ppd at HMV.com:

https://store.hmv.com/film-tv/blu-ra...tion-season-12

Presumably this will include all bonus material from all previous editions (there would be complaints if it doesn't), something however that may prove problematic if and when certain Troughton and Pertwee series get the blu-ray treatment but there's an obvious work around regarding that "problem" (keep the original DVDs)

Yes, I just put it back in the cart and it reflected the £39.99 price all the way through. My pre-order from last night also dropped to reflect the new lower price. My guess is that Si Parallel Universe was looking at the listings here and on Amazon just as a price shift was occurring--certainly, sometimes it will take a few minutes for our site to reflect price changes.

This new logo is not okay on the Classic Who episodes.
(for this part, it's not okay on any episodes before the upcoming season 11)

Today, BBC Worldwide has announced that Doctor Who: The Collection - Season 12 will be released on Blu-Ray on 11th June 2018.

For fans of Doctor Who and collectors of Classic Who seasons, the Blu-Ray has limited edition packaging with artwork by Lee Binding and has been restored and up-scaled to HD by Peter Crocker and Mark Ayres. The new release also has a wealth of new bonus content.

Russell Minton, Executive Producer at BBC Worldwide says:

"We are doing our very best at BBC Worldwide to restore and bring as many Classic Who titles out on Collector's Edition Blu-ray, and this starts with being able to confirm one of my favourites, Tom Baker's first season. We will also endeavour to include additional archive material and exciting newly-shot features where possible."

Season 12, Tom Baker's first as the Doctor, features five stories over 20 episodes, including The Ark in Space and Genesis of the Daleks. The Doctor is accompanied in this season by Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen) and Harry Sullivan (Ian Marter) and was first broadcast between December 1974 and May 1975.

The new Blu-Ray release includes existing bonus material from the original DVDs as well as the brand new features below:

TOM BAKER IN CONVERSATION
A candid new one-hour interview with the Fourth Doctor.

BEHIND THE SOFA
Classic clips from Season 12, viewed by Tom Baker, Philip Hinchcliffe, Louise Jameson, Janet Fielding, Sarah Sutton and Sadie Miller.

NEW MAKING-OF DOCUMENTARIES
For The Sontaran Experiment and Revenge Of The Cybermen.

IMMERSIVE 5.1 SURROUND SOUND MIXES
For The Ark In Space and Genesis Of The Daleks.

OPTIONAL BRAND NEW UPDATED SPECIAL EFFECTS
For Revenge Of The Cybermen.

GENESIS OF THE DALEKS - OMNIBUS MOVIE VERSION
Unseen since broadcast in 1975.

THE TOM BAKER YEARS
The 1991 VHS release, on disc for the first time.

PRODUCTION ARCHIVE MATERIAL
PDF files from the BBC Archives.
RT involved, and 5.1 for Ark and Genesis. The PDF files btw are nearly 500 pages.

Winner.

I personally quite like the inclusion of the new logo on this set. There were rumours circulating last year regarding the logo, saying that Chibnall was keen to tie the brand together and I think it makes perfect sense. One show, one logo. If the BBC have any sense they won't change the logo again. It should be a constant - other shows manage just fine!

Pre-Ordered this (couldn't say no at £40) - hoping they sell enough to justify more... Would be cool if Series 1-10 (of 'NuWho') and S11 onwards were also released in this packaging style... I can just imagine a whole set of these lined up on the shelf

Hopefully the Amazon Pre-order will be price matched to Zoom (don’t want to cancel any pre-order; also Zoom doesn’t ship to the USA).

Any Season 12 extras from other releases are being moved across to this release.

On another Who forum, one of the main people who deal with the releases mentioned that this will happen with any future releases of the blu-rays. Season specific material will be moved.

And I love the new logo, it looks nice on this release.

Why in the hell is the UK getting it in June and the States have to wait until October? I might have to think real hard about picking this version up and shunning the domestic release.

Frame rate conversion? From 1080i 50i to 60i, or even 24fps 1080p.

Given in and pre-ordered.

This will only be the second Dr Who I'll have on disc... and the first of the TV series (the other being the Dalek 60's movies).

But, Tom baker is the Doctor I grew up with - and so many of the stories have stuck with me... Ark in Space - whilst laughable in it's use of bubble wrap now, scared the hell out of me (due to the slow transformation) when I watched as a kid - glued to a 'massive' 19" B&W CRT TV

And Genesis of the Daleks was amazing in it's mash-up of WW1 meets WW!! (with mutants)... so ahead of it's time, It fired up my artistic imagination for years (until Star Wars came along)... and still, IMHO, one of the best Who stories ever.

I've tried to like New Who... but I just can't get into it. Controversially, I liked Matt Smith most... but have only watched a couple of Capaldi ones... so this box set is going to be a rare treat, and a walk down Nostalgia Street

Doesn't sound much but he's a articulate, charming and candid commentator (IMO more so than any other Doctor) without Tom's memory lapses or the cynicism prevalent on Davison's later DVD commentaries.

I always think it a shame Davison and McCoy never got to do their own volumes, and that Pertwee's contributions to his own tape amounted to no more than a few brief spoken episode introductions. But what can you do...

Realistically I can see that dropping to about £35. Still waiting for reviews before ordering though.
Didn't the Colin Baker tape have excerpts from things like Saturday Superstore and other clips like that?

The Years tapes were supposed to be rare episodes so with Hartnell and Troughton you had isolated episodes from incomplete stories and with Pertwee there were still a few gaps at the time and certainly a lot of the episodes were only B&W so the Pertwee intro was a bonus.
I think at the time the Davison and McCoy years were not as widely regarded although I think there would have been tapes had JNT not been sacked

You know I don't remember. I'm pretty sure it includes a clip from Arc of infinity though. I was very fond of the Hartnell, Troughton and Pertwee Years tapes back in the day but obviously they've long since been superseded by better product.

You're almost certainly right about why we never got Davison and McCoy editions.

EDIT: Have just went and found my Colin Baker Years tape, along with Tom Baker Years and The Curse of the Fatal Death one of only three Who VHS tapes I still own, and plan to watch it tonight. Will report back re contents if anyone cares.

So will this be from a tape source? If so, while the bitrate could improve things a little from the DVDs, I imagine the main draw will be the new extras, collectors packaging and maybe cost (not sure what the equivalent DVD pricing would be).
