How else would you react to a film where guys use their suit jackets as shields?

It was a riot.

I suspect that the first wick movie wasn't supposed to be at first but even the film team started to poke fun at it and just had a good time which is why it did well. I always laugh when you can spot the sprinkler system spraying rain on the rainy grave yard scene at the beginning of the first film.

For me, John Wick 3 is actually more funny and tasteful than the rest. The way wick breaks that big dudes neck over a book just looks all kinds of stupid and then he goes and puts the book back where it belongs lol. He spends like 5 minutes piecing together an antique gun just so he can nonchalantly blast a dude in a second before a 20 minute hand to hand battle. The doctor begging to be shot a second time so the hitman don't come after him haha. I could go on and on, that movie is border line stupid but it's effective at making me laugh and the visuals and sound are top of the line.

I think yes, in an unusual way they are trying to be both funny yet legit/serious. It works in it's own unique way. I absolutely LOL'd at the stair tumbling scene in 4, not in an eye rolling "this is lame" way but a natural, "these guys are having a blast with this material now" way.

The stair scene at the end didn't work for me; don't know if it was because I was still recovering from folks getting run over by cars and getting right back up (in the previous sequence)...but it just took me out of the movie.
Overall, I liked #4 quite a lot, but it was definitely not my favorite Wick.

As I thought, the Amazon exclusive is magically back in stock for Prime Day. But it's still an unsatisfying $42.99. I don't think I can stomach paying double the regular 4K price just for the sweet slip. It does look very cool, though.

Speaking of Amazon; if you want to get rich even in harsh times of inflation and homelessness, buy Amazon shares. Their prices are ridiculously high; someone is getting super rich ... Bezos, and the shareholders.

John Wick 4 4K will cost you.

Get rich fast, work three jobs, don't take any crap, kill them all if you have to, live intense, don't be afraid to die, spend it all. Follow your intuition.

Some interesting graphs in the comparison at https://www.hdnumerique.com/dossiers...hn-wick-4.html

I also bought the french Metropolitan Steelbook and I noticed the fancy subtitles are burnt in. Not that much of a problem because my french is ok but anyway.

Will the rest of the encode be the same as the Lionsgate one?

TIA

No, different encodes. But unless Metropolitan somehow dropped the ball, it should look identical to the LG disc in motion.

There's a color space difference between the Belga Films BD and Lionsgate BD. Not sure which one is correct. Compression on Belga Films BD is better https://slow.pics/c/PCC9v6UU

All the extras are on UHD (in AVC 1080p) and BD, including The World of Wick that's Amazon exclusive in US/UK.

Comparison between Belga Films UHD and Lionsgate UHD: https://slow.pics/c/wOQSWqXJ

No idea how those Lionsgate UHD caps were made, so I tried to match their tonemapping as closely as I could.

Looks like I'll have to grab the Lionsgate UHD when it's cheap. I'll probably still keep the Belga steelbook for The World of Wick extra.

The holdout for the Best Buy steelbook proved to be an act of futility with retail prices now double in the resell market, and numerous reports of damaged discs left me leery about purchasing.

I finally caved in and purchased from Amazon.

Edit-

Nuts!

Does anyone own the UK 1-4 set? I'm curious if the discs for 1 and 2 are the ones WB released in the UK or ports of the US Lionsgate ones.

Thanks, I know the WB releases only have the commentaries on the 4K discs, while the LG ones have all the extras.

It's the WB discs.

That's not changing anytime soon.

At least they were nice enough to put WB's logo on the rear cover, this time.
