Wait, is the 2015 Blu-ray (and is the one linked there the one to which you're referring?) different from the '09 Skynet edition beyond the change from VC-1 to MPEG-4? There was no review for that one, so I assumed it was the same master but a higher-bitrate encode. Thanks in advance!

Same master. Far better encode with better grain. Fewer extras though.

Oh, yeah, looks like that alternate ending is missing? Interesting. Wonder why some of that stuff wouldn't get ported over! Thanks for the info. Might check it out anyway since that edition is pretty inexpensive.

The problem with that shot is that Earl Boen's face is slightly out of focus, it's not all the way obvious on the old transfer but on the new one the processing doesn't know what to do with it so you end up with....that.

I don't know your preferences so I'll note here the 4k actually has way more detail (usually), so if that's your only concern you might prefer it to the 2015 BD. The 2015 BD is better in the sense of looking more like film (sorta) but the 4k is not (usually) a "DNR erases all the detail" kind of release, more a "DNR makes this look weird" release, if that makes any sense at all.

P.S. Welcome to physical media! It's usually not this complicated.
Did Cameron have anything to do with that release? Probably not.

Aside from the audio which is not faithful to the Theatrical mix.

It was a relatively well known disc producer who did it, iirc. I remember reading about him making a point of it for the last release of that master.

Seems like it might be. BD looks OOP too.

Probably put OOP so they can release new tie-in editions when the sequel comes out.

There's only a 10$ CAD difference between the 2015 blu ray and the 4k and the 4k copy includes the Blu ray. Do we know if the included BR copy in the 4k release is the 2015 version?

One would think so, but it's not. The Blu-ray included with the 4K release is the same remaster as the 4K disc, but converted to 1080p.
