I haven't seen Young Sherlock Holmes since I was a child, but it left a huge impact on me. It was one of the first films where I saw a character I like die and them not return like magic. They were gone and it made me feel uneasy. Not only that, but
[Show spoiler]the main villain got away with it and escaped.
Not what I expected
Looking at wikipedia, it seems to have made a profit world wide so a shame it never got a sequel. I'll probably revisit it.

I like it a lot. Great score by Bruce Broughton too!

Sorry, my mistake. I thought I’d heard it wasn’t good. I was just trying to convey it could be a toss-up in quality; you never know what Paramount will deliver.

Trying to make money off the Enola Holmes band wagon.

I have it in my Google Play library, but I think I'd still get the physical release.

Yeah, Going Ape was a good one. Foul Play on the other hand gave a lot of people issues.

It would be nice to get some special features but older movies seems to get such things less and less.

I agree with that. 90% I believe that it will be in a regular standard case and 10% I believe as part of Paramount Presents series. What do you think?

Young Sherlock Holmes is noted for having the first fully computer-generated photorealistic animated character.

Yeah, it does have a bit of that vibe what with the English boarding school setting and the fantasy elements and all. There's also a bit of Indiana Jones as well.

I'm surprised with all of the 80s nostalgia that it's a bit of a forgotten film.

I remember when it came out when I was a kid and it wasn't really all that popular, it's just not what kids were into at the time.

But I would have thought it would have been rediscovered and re-evaluated long before now because of the Chris Columbus involvement, the increased awareness of Holmes material thanks to Sherlock a few years back, and the greater interest in fantasy stuff over the past two decades.

Paramount doesn’t really do extras except for Paramount Presents, if it was licensed to a different label like Imprint maybe they would produce something.

The bootleg release included the hour long documentary The Many Faces of Sherlock Holmes.

This is great news. I've been patiently waiting for this. The movie was a childhood favorite of mine. I actually went to see it in the theater during a visit to Peru in '86. Over there, it was titled The Secret of the Pyramid. I still have the Paramount DVD from several years ago. I can finally upgrade.

And the effect still holds up almost forty years later.

The director, Barry Levinson, had so much potential at that time and his aesthetics in this film was fantastic.
As a kid watching it, I will always remember the conversation (something along like):
"What do you want to be when you grow old?"
"I never want to be alone."

Yeah, that line is rather haunting when you consider how the movie ends.
