So, I'm thinking of giving my Sony S380 to my brother and getting a new BD player that's smaller (possibly, not a deal breaker but the position I have to keep my current player is a bit awkward so something a bit less wide would be welcome) and with a better range of codecs supported (my brother has already a TV that reads more or less every current format via USB so the S380 limits won't be a problem for him).
Also if it can be bought through Amazon.it and doesn't cost a kidney would be nice.

Any advice?

EDIT
Regarding the better range of codecs I mostly meant a player that recognizes files with e-ac3 audio and possibly can play x265 files.

Need a recommendation for a fairly good price blu-ray player that is quiet!!! My PS3 is getting on my nerves with how loud the fan is. Are all blu-ray players this noisy?

Looking for a new Blu-ray player. Features and whatnot don't matter that much, as long as it supports all of the most up to date technology and doesn't break the bank.

How is the Sony BDPS3700 compared to the new UHD players for playing back dvds and blurays ? It been modified to be region free ,I bought it 3 years ago . I'm hoping not to worry about trying to get mods for UHD models and use this player when I play region B blu and pal dvds .

Based on your experience, what is the best dvd/blu-ray player when it comes to dealing with scratched discs?

I'm debating getting an Xbox One S or going the cheaper route and getting a used PS3. What are you thoughts?

PS3 is still my main Blu-Ray. Solid player that never messes up and was kept up to date since day 1.

Looking for a good and not too expensive All Region player. Ideally one that is fairly intuitive and easy to use. I had one once that was needlessly complicated and basically had to manually change regions with a switch on the back. There has to be a better way.

If you want small footprint, no apps, and don't need 3D then the Sony 1700 seems perfect. If you need 3D then 5500/6500/6700

One button region change, firmware stable so you can upgrade from the std Sony source.
Turn player off, Push Yellow for Zone A or Blue-B, Red-C, player turns on with the region.
DVDRegion All by default

As little as $100 (refurb)/140 (new) and sold by 220 Elect and Bombay plus their Ebay arms

Hey all. Looking to finally purchase a region free player and what better place to ask around. Price isn't really an issue, although I don't necessarily want to break the bank, and 4K would be a bonus not a necessity. Really just looking for top quality. Any advice is appreciated thanks.

is a Sony model the cheapest, best region free player with the least amount of hassles?

Sony's are definitely a good, cheap, hassle free option.

I just got a region free Sony BDP-S6700 and it's just as easy as using any standard player, no messing about or complicated settings.

1 Button press on the remote to swap regions (Yellow = Region A, Blue = Region B, Red = Region C) pop in the disc and it plays.

DVD regions switch automatically, so no need to even press a button for that.

I'm looking at two blu-ray players for my anime collection.

BDP-S3700
BDP-S6700

I have a 4k tv that should upscale 1080p content (Vizio's spatial scaling). Would there be any benefits with the S6700 over the S3700?

If you don't need 3D, then probably not

The 4K upscaling of teh SONY might be a little better in theory, but not likely all that noticeable in real life situations.

Thanks for the advice. I was really leaning towards the Sony 3700 until I saw some of the upcoming SD Blu-ray releases. I grabbed a 6700 in case I needed the extra processing power.

Is there a way to utilize the red button of a Toshiba Bluray Player remote without the dedicated remote? I got a good deal on one second hand but it lacked the remote and, of course, the universal remote I already had doesn't have any buttons recognized as that button.
