I'd love it as a huge fan of Jarmusch, Wu-Tang, and Forest Whitaker.

While on the topic of Jarmusch I wouldn't mind Broken Flowers, either...

Man...it's ridiculous that only a French BD edition (2010, forced subs) has been released.

Anyone know the exact reason why this doesn't have a BD release? I was sitting on the toilet reading Mushashi's Five Rings and was suddenly overcome with anger because Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai is only available on a crappy Lionsgate DVD in the US.

Aren't they bed buddies with StudioCanal? Why can't they give us a real blu-ray? Why can't they let Criterion give us a blu-ray? Why can't they just give me a personal copy? Making one wouldn't be hard.

There are starving people all over the world and even though some will say it's because "they're poor" it is really because they're on a hunger strike until someone releases Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai on Region A blu-ray.

Apparently a newer edition was released in Germany last year, proper 1080p24 transfer and all. I know it's not region A but still, I'm buying it pronto!

I don't think it has English subs for the non-English parts...

Balls, I didn't think of that. Still, it's a 24p transfer so that's a start. Might have to cook up my own sub track and mux it together, I've still got the R1 DVD so I can use that for reference.

Yep, the German edition doesn't have English subs for the bits with the French dude. But I found a sub track for those parts, it took a few hours of nurdling about with the timing to get it to sync with the German encode but it worked out in the end. One remux later, et voila! Proper 1080p24 Ghost Dog with English DTS-HD 5.1 and the right subs in the right places.

Pretty strange that this title doesn't have a US blu-ray yet.

Yeah, a proper criterion blu-ray would be nice. They have been working closely with Jarmuch in the past so maybe that could happen..

What's the chances of Lionsgate giving this a release? Or do we have to beg Criterion/Arrow/Kino to fight for a release? I mean with Limit of Control (finally) getting a release, from Arrow nonetheless, this leaves Ghost Dog in limbo. And to me, that's not right.

I'm kind of bummed that not only can I not find a Region A blu-ray of this film, but its not even available in HD, period!

Not available on Amazon Prime.

Not available on Hulu.

Not available on Netflix.

Not available on Apple TV.

Not available on Microsoft Movies & TV.

Not available on Playstation Video.

Not available on HBO GO/NOW.

Not available on YouTube.

Not available on VUDU.

Not available on DIRECTV.

Not available on tubi.

Wow!

Is this a conspiracy? Are Americans forbidden to access this film in HD, because maybe it will inspire them to become crazy samurai warriors and start living on rooftops training pigeons to communicate for them?

Who knows!

Guess I gotta go to France or Germany to watch this (or get a region-free blu-ray player and be forced to watch foreign subtitles).

A damn shame if you ask me.

That’s crazy that no streaming platform has the rights to this. Makes me wonder if Criterion Channel might just snag it for a Jarmusch retrospective.
I have hope that this will eventually see the light of day in a R1 release. Whether that’s Criterion title, Kino release or possibly a Arrow snag, it’ll definitely be out at some point. Again, Limits of Control is getting a special Arrow release next month, so I’m sure Jim is on the case with this (or at least I hope he is since it’s easily one of his most popular films).
