Well, Im not sure if I can explain it, but when comparing the VTF2 and VTF15 after Audyssey runs, using the HSU CD and test tones (16hz to 63 hz), the VTF2 gave higher db results. Now, Im not sure if this is a meter thing, a break in thing, or what, but Im gonna ask Dr Hsu about it. What I can say, is the VTF15 is a beast, regardless of what my meter said. The VTF2, on a good track, could generally offer a little vibration in my cushy chair in the butt area. The VTF15 shakes the butt and the back/chest much more than Ive ever felt it. You can just tell its got more ooomph. Until I know whats up with the other numbers, I took some db results during a couple of good movies. These are at 0.0db on my Marantz, and I can tell you whatever room Im in in the house, it sounds like a roar coming from the living room. The readings are taken from my seat, about 12 feet from the VTF15, in a 3600 cuft room (one side opens to a kitchen and dining room so it's actually bigger).

These are max db's hit during a particular scene, using the CM 140:

Transformers, city battle at end - 111.0
Act of Valor, gun boat scene - 109.8
HTTYD, final battle - 109.7
Iron Man 2, final battle - 111.0
Episode 1, pod race - 110.8

Any input? I ran a ton of tests with different configs, and I settled on EQ2, 2 ports open, Q 0.5. Most db's, and 0.5 is plenty tight bass wise, and offered a little more db than 0.3.

Here are some pics:

It is sharp. I left the rubber feet off, and it slid well, but Im gonna put the feet on tonight. Dr Hsu said I could leave the feet off on carpet, but i have it close to the wall and it actually slides too easy. One good bump and it moves.

Did you just order it off their site or did you talk to him 1st. I'm trying to upgrade my Epik Legend to an Empire, but I can get a hold of them. I've left several messages and emails and no response.. Pretty disheartening..

I've spoken with them a few times by phone, and a lot on their forum over the last few months. Dr Hsu posts on the Hsu forum daily, which is pretty cool. Ive sent emails to a lot of sub companies over the past 3 months, and Hsu is quick to reply. I noticed Epik was a little slow at times, but it was usually in the same day.

I just pulled the trigger on the VTF15 last week, after finally deciding to stick with them in the upgrade. I need to call them tomorrow because I want to add the $100 5 year amp warranty.

I ordered the sub one morning, and it was shipped that evening, hsu is good about stocking their subs.

When I called Epik the 1st time before I ordered the legend,he called me back an hour later. Chad is a great guy,we talked for a while and I ordered one. He shipped it out right away the next day, being it was already 4pm. But this time no such luck..

That's a good thing.. But they should have someone on the phone then. That's your bread and butter. You don't want to put a sour taste in your customers mouth, they might go to another company..

The legend does sound really good, but if I have a problem,I want to know someone is there for me,not leaving me out to twist in the wind..

Congrats on the upgrade elwaylite. I may graduate from the VTF-1 someday. Can't imagine what a 15 would do to my little 10 x 10 room.

That's what I'm afraid of.
I love my VTF-1, but I may add another one, or upgrade to a 12" in a couple of years.

you have a point there. The only problem is that it would take up half my room.

Well, im in 3600cuft roughly with openings to other rooms, and its def more than the VTF2MK4 had. If you run Audyssey, you would just compensate for a smaller room by ending up with a lower Gain setting than me, for a large room, and thats not a bad thing.

Big thing about 12 vs 15, is generally at a given SPL, the 15 is going to ease thru it with lower THD than a 12, and thats a good thing. But the cabinet is huge, little larger in real life .

I was using no feet on carpet, but its so slick, I added the feet tonight. It aint moving now.
