Despite the blasphemy. I decided to check out Adult Disney Plus and am mostly happy with it despite it being a streaming service. The encoding is much better than Stan and Netflix and can almost count as looking like a bootleg Blu-Ray on some titles and audio wise most titles sound like Disney Atmouse Blu Ray tracks. The main advantage for me is seeing what Fox's 4K remasters could of looked like had they had the chance to get a disc release like Die Hard 2, Con Air, color of money.

Itís a crying shame what Disney is doing to the Blu-Ray landscape. I will boycott Disney (and streaming), for as long as I f*cking can. Nice to know that maybe, one day, when Disney has more subscribers than Netflix, they may just allow catalogue titles to return to Blu-Ray (and UHD HD, of course). Until then, I hope they throw us some crumbs now and then. A catalogue title once a month would be nice.
And, when hell freezes over and Satan is back on his throne (as he was back in the rental video landscape of the Ď80s), the mouse house and Netdixís diabolical plan to take ownership away from the consumer (so one must subscribe or watch nothing), then it is good to know PQ will be good.

Predictable, but not a bad watch.

Ordered from WowHD:

Apparently it is region B compatible, and its highly likely we will get DVD only here, if anything.

My issue apart from ownership is do I watch a BD with a poor or mediocre transfer(but good encoding) or a HD/4K stream based on a newer transfer(but average encoding) in the case of some masters like Die Hard 2 being a prime example where I can't stand the BD but I am not huge on streaming either.

You donít get telecine shudder (that horrible thing where the picture bumps up and down at the start and end of films). So Yes, for the most part, a new scan will improve PQ a f*ckload. Sometimes, if lots of DNR is applied (eg. Predator Ultimate Hunter Edition OR Terminator 2, Skynet Edition), then yeah, itís best to hold on to the old disc.

Some greatly improved BD releases that came out, off the top of my head, A Fish Called Wanda, Ghostbusters, Heat, Robocop, Army of Darkness, Hardware, Silence of the Lambs.

And in Australia, we are lucky to get a proper 1080p24 release of Aussie classics (instead of not much better than DVD quality 1080i/50 releases). Like Two Hands or Razorback.
Wow thanks man you know your stuff, im clueless to be honest but i did start collecting over 11 yrs ago so a lot of my stuff was from early on and been curious about it all.
Yes companies take out again to cash in but they are also improved i never knew that.
I probably have a ton of stuff thats maybe been out a few times or never and i have purchased titles not knowing if they are watchable or not or knowing if there was a better edition instead.
Some blu rays i have never heard of and only was released here as you can tell im originally from overseas.

I have read about people moaning of a movie on blu ray being nothing better than dvd.

But even owning much older titles i probably still not replace them for newer, yes maybe 4k, but not got 4k tv yet.
I have thousands of blu rays that i need to add on here but just never get the time to do it.
I have got a small collection of 4k and growing but still got a 3d tv its only when that's goes i maybe go 4k or when my other tv in other room needs replaced.

I suppose as technology gets better we will always get better editions but i was just curious having had babel for example way back and shock takes it out again, im sure there are other places where its been released several times over and other titles.

I suppose you dont get much better than 4k if they are true 4k, and they sure are dropping in price to almost match blu rays, so its no brainer if its a 4k/ blu ray combo.

But i have to take notes of what you said and read up about this as i just been buying regardles not knowing what im buying into. I bet i have some awfully editions as many i have never seen.

The likes of the ring on blu ray which is at a low price on amazon i noticed its also been out again by shock. I thought i had this set from arrow but its not the same.
So thought i buy into the set, not knowing whats the better one i went for the orginal and not shock edition
Maybe i made the wrong choice, i noticed the second edition was only ever available from shock here.

Who knows maybe of the same set there was better editions out there but thats upto if one wants to spend much more and import such edition.

The U.S. version of Yellowstone season 3 is region free, I've tested it. Apparently season 3 is being released on Blu-ray here in Australia in May, it's been up for pre-order on Sanity's website for months:

Arrived last week, both with slips (yay):

Watched Beauty and the Beast again, and I gotta say I don't get the hate I see for it online. I liked how they fleshed the characters out and gave it a longer run time. The cartoon's short duration is good for kids and I also love that version, but expanding it was a good choice imo. I also really like the added songs as well, I bought the deluxe CD off ebay for under $10 delivered and I've been listening to that quite a bit over the last few days.

Will have to give V For Vendetta a spin as well, I bought it on DVD but missed the BD upgrade, so it's been a while since I watched it. Looking forward to seeing it again for sure.

Speaking of hate for a film...

Watched:

I didn’t think it was anywhere near as bad as it’s online RT scores (critics 18%, audience 48%). Perhaps I feel it is better than it actually is because I was expecting to see a turd and when I saw something watchable, it was a nice surprise, elevating it’s overall score. Acting was pretty good and Ian McShane was great as Dad. Screenplay was decent, albeit a little predictable. There was one horribly conceived sequence to do with how the “monsters” get around the need to have the voice of a holy man open a sacred seal. The notion was terrible writing, although the writer probably thought it was smart (literally anything else would have been better).
All in all, Hellboy was a little overly corny in some parts, as there was a penchant for bad one liners. Action and graphic violence was a little OTT, but I thought it was to be expected, since the movie is about monsters, demons and witches, that dine on children while entertaining guests (Baba Yaga sequence was creepy, on several levels).
Score was good, music average, with the exception of a fight sequence with a Motley Cure classic (Kickstart my Heart). Great soundtrack for some carnage. And with regards to the fight scenes, those were the best bits. Well conceived and the CGI was pretty good. Wouldn’t expect anything less with the battle choreography, since Hellboy’s director also directed the Game of Thrones episode “The Watchers on the Wall” (Season 4, Ep9). So by the end of the film, all things considered, I thought Hellboy was a little above average. Worth a look. 7/10

If your a fan of Del Toro’s films, park your preconceived notions before you press play. It is a very different beast (no pun intended). Apparently, it is a more faithful adaptation of the comic. Keep watching for a couple of post credit sequences that introduce characters for a sequel, that will never happen (unless someone is really kind and wants to invest and most likely lose $40 million. Hellboy just made it’s budget back globally at the box office).
PS. It’s a pity we don’t get more billionaires who are TV/movie fans. Jeff Bezos liked SyFy’s The Expanse, so after SyFy cancelled it, he bought the rights and kept it going on Amazon Prime (and released S4 to BD)..

Edit: Cool homage to Polanksi’s Macbeth at the start of the film.

Watched Man of Steel UHD and BVS UHD the last two nights, both looked great (particularly MoS) on the new LG CX...... both of them froze towards the end of the film, BVS so much that it reset my Sony X800 player and I gave up as it was getting late.....I have been reading up today and see that potentially the fact that the player was hooked up to the net might be the cause? or its just down to 100gb discs being the problem or the player just needs to be completely unplugged every now and then (*really!?!?)

So i'll give them another go tonight with a freshly reconnected player that isn't connected to the internet...... froze up half way through the Batman v Supes brawl so that is kinda annoying

Anyone else have similar problems with those discs / player? Come to think of it I haven't really had any problems in the past and I only recently connected the player up to the internet..... maybe that is the problem?

Not entirely related but my Sony X700 UHD player has frozen a couple of times during play, but a skip back and FF to the same section and it played back over fine. Has also frozen on a menu once (had to turn off and reboot). Itís connected via WiFi.

Almost completely unrelated (still Sony). Had issues with my PS4 lately during gameplay. Controller would turn off, game kept going. Tried to reconnect and all controllers would just flash white. After a hard reset, it would say ďcanít connect to the internetĒ. When it finally did reconnect, bandwidth test was awful (6Mbps when normally approximately 50 Mbps). Kept happening, until I didnít bother reconnecting to the internet and played offline. No issues after that. Fingers crossed.

So yeah, I think your hypothesis is correct, probably due to internet connection.

Weird to be back on the forum after a couple of months away - just been busy reorganising and restructuring the home movie library. As a result, 300 blu rays have been removed from their cases and put into custom made sleeves I made. So not sure what I've missed out on

What I've bought since my last haul:

I also have a Sony X800 and have only had freezing on a few discs - and those discs have always been 100gb discs from either Warner or Paramount. In every case this was during the first time watching the disc - most recent example Tenet from Warner. In each case I cleaned the disc with some water and microfibre cloth and after that they have all worked perfectly. I read that some discs can get coated in residue during manufacture so this may have been my issue that throughly cleaning them fixed. Of course if your player used to play them fine before and now it freezes then maybe this isnít the issue causing your freezing but it probably canít hurt to clean them.

I've got an X700 and have not had many playback issues. Sometimes it takes a while to boot up or doesn't load discs but every disc I've played works perfectly.

Thanks, outta curiosity do you have your player connected to the internet? I disconnected mine and replayed the second half of BVS and it played flawlessly, so I guess I'll go back to leaving it disconnected like it was before
