United Kingdom Casualty and Holby City

Several weeks ago, Casualty spin-off Holby City returned after a break of nearly two months. Casualty has been in and out of the Saturday night schedules, but recently (going up to last Saturday) it's been on for three weeks in a row. After this coming Saturday night's new episode of the current series/season, I think there are seven episodes left. Whether the show's makers were able to complete the series/season before filming on it and Holby City were suspended, I don't know.

I saw a headline on Facebook yesterday (by Holby City's page), saying filming has resumed (or will resume soon), with an episode about you-know-what.

Haven't yet watched tonight's Holby City, but regarding recent storylines, I hope Cameron gets his comeuppance. I know John Barrowman guest stars in tonight's episode.

Both shows are being repeated on UK channel Drama, but I have my suspicions over whether they're the full versions. I don't know if Casualty has always been on for fifty minutes and Holby City for an hour on BBC One, but both shows are in hour-long timeslots.

Turns out that after last Saturday night's new episode of Casualty, there are six episodes of the current series/season left. This is because of an episode being skipped (did a web search and found the answer to something I observed during a recap at the beginning of a new episode shown a few months ago) due to it being "inappropriate". I noticed in the recap, clips from scenes which hadn't been shown (one looked like some characters were in quarantine. Well, with what's been happening these past four months, it's understandable why the BBC skipped that episode.

Next Tuesday night's new episode of Holby City will be the last one for a while, as the show is taking another break (as of next week, they've shown all the episodes filmed before filming was suspended because of you-know-what). Filming resumed in July, but when the show returns, instead of an hour-long running time, each episode will be forty minutes long (source: this week's new issue of Inside Soap magazine).

Seen a post by the official Facebook fanpage for Casualty today, that filming has resumed. When it returns there will be a special episode to do with you-know-what (Holby City will also be doing a special episode about it as well). It didn't say in the post whether the runtime of the episodes will be shorter when the show returns.

There has been a further update on the official Facebook fanpage for Casualty. When the show resumes later this year (there were around seven episodes left of the current season), the total runtime of each episode will be the same as Holby City, forty minutes.

A follow-up to the above quoted post, have read on the official Facebook fanpage for Casualty that the episode which was skipped earlier this year will be shown on BBC One a week on Saturday (26th September).

Read last week on a Facebook fanpage for Holby City, that new episodes will resume on BBC One a week tomorrow (Tuesday 10th November at 8.15 pm). The episodes will have a shorter runtime of forty minutes. No return date yet for Casualty.

[Show spoiler]After Jac Naylor (Rosie Marcel) left the show last week (likely for good), and Ric Griffin (Hugh Quarshie) leaving the show when it returned after the lengthy break last autumn, I've been trying to think who are the longest-serving castmembers left on Holby City. Only three I can think of, are nurse Donna, surgeon Sasha, and Henrik Hanssen.

A character who hasn't been on the show for a few years, has returned in tonight's new episode of Holby.

Realistically, I don't know if there is much chance of another channel picking up Holby City, after the BBC recently decided to axe the drama series. I'm guessing Casualty was saved from the axe because it's filmed outside London (apparently the BBC want to make dramas and soap operas that represent the whole of the UK).

The most recent series/season of Casualty ended this past Saturday night, followed by a brief teaser of the new series (starting next Saturday night with a special feature-length episode to mark the show's thirty-fifth anniversary).

United Kingdom New series/season of Casualty

Had been wondering how many episodes were in what is now 'last series/season' of Casualty. The series resumed on BBC One last Saturday night after a break because of the Commonwealth Games. This coming Saturday night's new episode is the first in a new series/season (Series 37), which I found surprising because last Saturday's new episode didn't really end on a cliffhanger (it felt like a normal, average episode). So the most recent completed series/season was comprised of forty-four episodes, based on Sky's Catch-up section for the show.

Thought the two feature-length episodes they did last series/season were very good (one or both of them focused on actor Jason Durr's character David).

Also noticed in the new issue of TV & Satellite Week magazine that this coming Saturday night's new episode is listed as being in a fifty minute timeslot. If the episode ends up being near to being that long, for a regular episode it could mean they're going back to being full-length. When new episodes have been made during the pandemic, the length of each regular episode was reduced from forty-five to forty minutes long (not including two regular episodes edited together or feature-length episodes).

I think that character Stevie has been a welcome addition to the Holby ED (they joined during last series/season), but my favourite character is probably Dylan (love his witty, dry sense of humour).

United Kingdom Tonight's new episode of Casualty on BBC One

Haven't watched tonight's new episode of Casualty yet, but have been looking forward to this one since I saw a post earlier this week by the Facebook page for the show, which said that
[Show spoiler]a character from Holby City (which sadly ended on the BBC earlier last year) is making an appearance (technically a crossover appearance, even though the Casualty spin-off is no longer on air), surgeon Sasha Levy. As far as I'm aware this is only the second Holby City character to make an appearance on Casualty since Holby City ended (the other character being head of nursing Fletch).

The show has been quite good of late (ex-Eastenders actor Nigel Harman joined the cast a few episodes ago).
