There has been some confusion regarding the upcoming Tweeny Witches release.

It was initially listed to include a DVD via TRSI, but it has since been updated to clarify this is a BD-only release.

New pre-order link: https://www.rightstufanime.com/Tween...Spells-Blu-ray

Media Blasters and TRSI also originally listed the release date of April 21. It has been updated to April 24 while RACS is listing April 25 as the release date. Amazon’s placeholder page is still carrying the April 21 date.

^They said there was a oversight and the subtitles were left off, and that they were going to reissue it later with the subtitles. So perhaps they're just selling these (the copies already printed) as "dub only" because there are no English subs for the Japanese dialog.

They were also considering doing a Blu-ray when they reissue the DVD. Might hold off on buying this DVD for now.

Is it safe to assume Funimation/Crunchyroll titles are no longer going to have discounted rereleases like the Essentials line since there hasn't been a new one for a few years and ones that were planned (like Blood-C)have been cancelled?

I’d think so. Probably best to just pick stuff up you think you may want to own when you feel it’s hit a price point you are good with.

Indeed. The DVD format will forever remain very welcome in my collection primarily for this reason, mainly for SD content. There's also when they have extras or language tracks missing from the Blu-rays, or when the Blu-ray looks worse than the DVD (I love seeing something on a newer and far superior format look worse usually due to lack of care, sigh), or when they have nicer packaging (I love you singles era releases and your beautiful artboxes and inserts).

I'd say yes as the very last Essentials release was the second Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution Movie in May 2022, and the very last Classics release (and only one in 2022) was The Devil is a Part-Timer! Season 1 in January 2022. The Love Live! Sunshine movie Essentials release was planned for July 2022, but it appeared only on the Crunchyroll Store (a phantom FUNimation Shop listing was spotted earlier), and then the listing got deleted after the planned release date.

Yes, I agree wholeheatedly with all of that. Even though I am a Blu-ray-only collector, I still have an entier 8-shelf media unit full of vintage DVD releases specifically because of those reasons. My tongue-in-cheek question, even though I didn't actually specify it, was only directed at new releases, not previously released or vintage anime DVDs. I see no purpose whatsoever anymore for a DVD-only release or even BD/DVD combo sets for new anime series. I wish Crunchyroll just dropped the DVDs from their LE sets like AL mostly has, and cut out standard combo releases. Sure, people will say "but at least you have a backup if the Blu-ray fails," but more than likely the DVDs are going to rot away long before the Blu-rays do, and I really don't want to watch a new anime in standard definition, anyway.

And c'mon, we all know that true otakus don't even have any friends that they could loan the DVDs to, lol.

Well all includes the Puni Puni Poemy Spin-Off OVA. But I thought the series was hilarious and disappointed that the series ended so early on compared to the Manga.
