Is that 16:9 ?

I want the 2.40:1 option but I stopped waiting and bought a laser projector. Maybe someday.

Love this video demo of the Wall at CES.

Posted on AVS Forum about RTINGS OLED longevity test:

Quote:
"Morning everyone! First of all, I want to take a minute to give a huge shoutout to everyone who took the time to point out the issue with the schedule on our new longevity test! To be honest, with all the planning that went into this test, we're a bit embarrassed to confirm that we simply didn't know that Sony TVs only started their compensation cycle after four hours of off time. We've adjusted our schedule to make sure all TVs are being tested on equal footing, adding a 5 hour off period three times a week so the Sony TVs have time to run their cycle. We're in the process of updating our article, and we'll be pinning a comment on the video as well.

Again, a huge thanks to everyone who pointed this out!

The front of the TV's bezel frame is all black and its 1/2 of the width of last year's bezel. When the TV is on it's all image and you don't even notice the very thin all black bezel edge.

Every element of the C2 is beautifully designed and very modern and minimalists. Hope to see some of our Blu-Ray.com friends visit our showroom so we can demonstrate the many advancement in these bleeding edge emissive digital video displays.
Thanks for this post. I agree with your assessment of the C2's appearance.

I'm currently enjoying a 42" LG C2, so much so that I'm redecorating my living room and moving up to a 77" or 83". The difference between them is a less-than-negligible $1500, but at 9'-10' away, the 83" brings me closer to a THX-recommended 40 degree FOV from center.

I'm searching for confirmation to the rumor that I've seen on other forums that the 83" model is actually last year's panel with this years processor and frame .. and also that there is a visible(?) seam down the centerline of this panel, where two panels are joined. Do you have any information to offer on these rumors? TIA.

LG's latest 83" C2 OLED TVs has the new evo EX OLED module.

I have not seen any line on any LG OLED TV, except for a couple defective C2 TVs. The 83" OLED panel is made from one sheet of glass.

Hope this helps.

Yeah. It's exciting but I'm thinking I have to do some serious thinking if I can wait 2 1/2 years for an on sale 2024 model for my next purchase.

Most of this year my latest projection was 18 months from now... Still a decent wait but more managable. As well to factor is knowing these will also be expensive with not just MLA but also going beyond WOLED implementation. The peaks will be over 1000, but so few actual discs are asked to display that in DV mastering at this point. Arguably there is only about 150 titles all earlier in the format for HDR specs that would benefit from OLED going to 1000+.

Would be better to trade "brightness" in white speculars for better saturated colour luminance in the 600-900 range where most Dolby Vision grades max out anyway, for more accurate display to disc data. Let's see better color volume percentages than brightness porn alone. Maybe that will happen concurrent to the former. I don't know though.

Definitely looking forward to January and beyond to see what new technology improvements TV companies will announce.

I’m expecting/hoping for a 77” QD-OLED from Sony, and wondering if LG will announce anything new for their own panels to increase color volume and reduce brightness limits on wider brighter areas.

I think a 77" QD-Oled will be a game changer.
I will either consider Sony or Panny.

That Panny 77" Oled is

The only thing that gives me pause with the Sony’s is they come out of black sooner, which can raise the lower blacks that still have detail and ruin a bit of the mood for some darker cinematography.

I’m hoping that can get fixed with a calibration though. But we’ll see…

I wonder if LG will have anything new technology-wise.

I've never really seen an issue with my Sony A90J on shadow detail / dark cinematography.
Inky blacks and fine shadows. No lost shadows.
So Sony no how to handle it.

The problem is sort of the opposite, the blacks on the lower end are more raised than they should be (brighter), so sometimes they don’t render darker cinematography as accurately.

No TV is perfect though.

Are you talking about 100% black?
When I first got A90J 100% black had some pixels engaged. So very slight glow. It was like a starfield. You had to sit in the room for 30 seconds at let your eyes adjust.

Once it went through calibration. It was tweaked. Basically calibrator lowered each primary colour ever so slightly. Now 100% black.
The room and TV just disappears.

I mean when it’s barely above black, not quite pitch black but just above, the ‘gamma’ in those “barely above black” levels are usually higher then they should be according to HDTVTest and other calibration results I’ve seen.

Yeah. I know what you are saying.
It's not a problem on my A90J.
You have to muck around with those stupid pseudo settings that manufacturers throw into the settings. They muck up gamma. I turned all of them off.

Then the gamma tracking is awesome. Shadow details are the best I have ever experienced.

I have the 77A80J. The near black is noticeably bad than the Panasonic GZ OLED. Doubt if calibration can fix it as the TV lacks fine grained calibration controls like LG / Panasonic.

Not noticeable bad on A90J.
I can bring up Spears & Muncils checkerboard near black and the checkerboard is the best I've ever seen. Obviously there.

I see that the discussion deviated from the original post, but I just couldn't help chiming in. Thanks for sharing this news about Samsung's plans to launch a QD-OLED monitor! OLED technology has been a game changer, and it's great to see Samsung leading the way in this technology.
