Ryan Pope has that Troughton-like appearance that could pass for a recast as the Second Doctor. Another very intense actor with some great comedic timing, he was brilliant in the tremendous 2013 film A Field In England, directed by Ben Wheatley

Edit: another pic

Lets not start any arguments but I am open to the idea of a female Doctor and would love for them to try it just to see if it works...

My choices for Capaldi's successor (although I'm not ready to see him leave for a while yet) would be;

1. Emma Thompson
2. Anna Chancellor
3. Hayley Atwell
4. Julie Walters

If we continue with casting a male as a Doctor then my choices for Capaldi's successor would be;

(in no particular order)

Tim Roth
Idris Elba
Robert Carlyle
Bill Nighy (doesn't want it but he will remain on my list)
Hugh Laurie (as above)
James Nesbitt
Richard Ayoade
Sean Pertwee

I think Miranda Hart would make a brilliant female Doctor. Before anyone says she'd be terrible because she's a comedy actor, she is also perfectly capable of the dramatic moments of the show (see Call The Midwife).

(No, it's not Sean Pertwee)

I don't blame any producer at trying to make their mark on the show but there are more inventive and clever ways of doing it.
Yeah... I have nothing at all against Michelle Gomez. One thing I always say is they NAIL the casting for this show every time. I don't always like some of the ideas or plots... but they consistently cast great actors and actresses for this show!

But... as noted... Michelle Gomez could just as easily have been brought in as the Rani. I thought and hoped that was who she was going to be... although the "Mistress" line could have been a reference to how K-9 used to always refer to Romana as well.

Ironically, the Rani was (in her only two appearances) generally portrayed as a FAR more competent villain than the Master. She still lost eventually to the Doctor, but he had to beat her... the Master often beat himself (Yes, I know that sounds more suggestive than I meant it!)

I still kept hoping Missy was just lying about who she was... until we saw the General regenerate in that last episode from last series... so that ship has sailed now I guess... which is why I usually don't complain about it, but I hope they're done with that particular experiment.

I would be open to the idea of having a young doctor to shake things up. Robert Sheehan, the hilarious dude from Misfits would be great. He would bring the fun too.
