Default Paul McCartney Archive Collection Rip-Off

A Cautionary Tale.

Just a word of warning to anyone considering purchasing any of the Paul McCartney Archive Collection sets . I recently purchased a copy of 'Wings at the Speed of Sound ' boxset online only to find that the download page no longer works . I contacted the seller ( who did their best ) , Paul McCartney's webmaster ( no reply , no help ) and Universal Music ( worse than useless ) who informed me that as this was an 'old item' ( released in 2014 ) and they are no longer supporting it ( so stop selling them then ! ) they were unwilling to supply a new link or set of download files .

So Im returning my WATSOS boxset for a refund and would strongly advise people to check before they buy as Universal Music are not honouring their own attached contents sheet. Such a pity , as I already own 8 others in this series but that's it , no more for me . Paul McCartney deserves better , and so do we .

Very disappointing,

~M~

If you purchase a 100+ item that is 5 years old, it's on you. THIS is what happens to people who only rely on digital. Buy a damn CD player! I've got all of them, enjoy them very much, and I'm pretty sure all the download cards went into the trash without use. I have physical media & the players that play all of it.

What a ridiculousl post . How am I ‘relying on digital only ‘ ? Did you read my post before boarding your soapbox? I bought a physical set (Book/2CD/DVD ) which included a contents sheet (see pic ) advertising a digital high resolution copy of all the music on the set for those that care ( and I do , though you’re quite free not to ) as well as the physical copies !

How is it ‘on me ‘ just because it’s 5 years old ? It’s still advertised and available and unlike digital movie redemption codes it does not have an expiry date before which it must be purchased to avail of the download . Paul McCartney and his people obviously thought it added extra value to the set ( after all , they paid to have it made ) and I paid for the ‘full’ set too .
And these idiotic companies wonder why people resort to torrents/file sharing ......lol

Yeah, "Extra Value" to mean it doesn't last forever. These sets are not a rip-off. The only cautionary tale is for those few people who expect digital stuff to work at anytime after release date. It can't be trusted, period.

God love you You really haven’t got a clue have you ?
When you download files , the first thing you do is create 1 or preferably 2 backup copies same as any other important pc data . That should cover most eventualities. If Universal ( or anyone else ) choose to subsequently take down their downloads it’s not a problem , I got what I paid for and it’s ‘on me’ to look after it .

I get that you don’t like digital, that’s fine but in my case I paid for 4 items and received only 3 . The set is on its way back to Universal. To hell with them and their non-existent cus tomer service I will survive and thrive without them .

And my decade old Pink Floyd downloads still sound mighty fine

Cheers
