It's gonna be a darn shame if they don't (or can't) release a box set with all 5 of the Shaft films.

That’s not going to happen. Warner Archive just released a set of the original three films and Warner no longer has access to the 4th film because it’s owned by Paramount.

I’ll definitely be blind buying this one. Just from the trailer it looks like I’ll enjoy it.

Well that's why I said it's gonna be a darn shame.

Why is it a shame? You can buy the triple feature of the original trilogy, and the other two separately. They’re all readily available, so what the hell do you need a box set for?

Some people like box sets, they often take up less space and are more cost efficient. Plus for collector's sake, it's cool to have entire franchises in one set.

Yeah but we're talking 3 amaray cases here not a whole lot. Plus, if there is ever a sequel you'll have to buy that too, so it defeats the purpose.

Anyways, this is a day 1 for me. Kind of funny cause I don't own the others yet.
Guess I should remedy that this weekend.

Took 'em almost 50 years to get to the latest movie. Doubt there'll be another anytime soon.

The quality of the DVD-R leaves a lot to be desired, to put it mildly, so it would need a proper remastering.

I'm not saying I don't like a good box set, but I hardly consider it a "shame" when all 5 films are (or soon will be) available on blu-ray. That's my main concern, not packaging. I'd consider it a shame if, say, Shaft In Africa were unavailable due to some legal or rights issue and all the rest were available on blu-ray. Buy a 5-disc Viva Elite and print out some custom cover art if you want all the movies in a single set.
