New Advertising System - Page 2 - Blu-ray Forum

The link is in the first post of this thread. Third section from the bottom on that Settings page, untick the 'Display advertising' box.

Fair play to the forum for allowing it to be disabled. Personally, I would be happy to pay a smallish amount per month to keep the forum ad-free, maybe something like a few dollars a month. Maybe even more if my pending submissions are accepted!

Agreed that it's nice that they gave the option to turn it off. Other forums would probably force it on you and not give you a choice.

Personally I've turned off the ads.

Just to be clear, if you click an Amazon link and it adds the "...?tag=bluraycom-21...", that is contributing to the site if you buy that item or anything else on Amazon for X mins, ie via the Amazon affiliate program?
If that's the case, then I'm sure a couple of purchases will outstrip any potential ad earnings from my eyeballs. Especially if the site was cluttered with ads (without an off button) I'm sure it would lead to me using the site less. I mean I immediately noticed the difference and went straight to the feedback forum looking for this thread.

I like to support the site, and make most of my Blu purchases through it - but I have disabled the ads, because I keep getting these big banners of eBay ads - and the majority of it is bootleg releases. I keep clicking on them thinking they are actual releases I missed, but then find out they are just bootlegs.

I use this site so much that I would happily chip in to keep it running. Especially since ads of this sort are just the worst and are part of the reason why I've abandoned a lot of other online haunts. Very glad we at least have the option to turn them off here.

Didn't even know the ads could be turned off. But FWIW I do order plenty of stuff through the links on here and if there was a 'membership fee' type scheme I'd be happy to support the site that way too.

OH No Ads are back!!! Pop ups all over including title videos that play.

Settings have Ads turned off but it doesn't seem to matter now.

update - I think I got rid of it now. Not sure haha

I had advertising turned on in support of this site, but this morning I started getting pop-over video ads. Sorry, that's where I draw the line.

Same question free me. I thought I had blocked the adverts a few weeks back, but today am plagued with loads of pop up ads and video. A disgrace.

I've had the advertisement setting set to "Off", but strangely just got this mess... It was difficult to get to the site settings to make sure I had them set to "Off" because the ads got in the way.

Yep I didn't have any issues with ads on until this morning then I started getting pop up adds on both the top and bottom of the screen. Even after closing them they would come back.

Sorry I have to leave the ad setting off if this is how it's going to work.

Yep, me too this morning. Despite unchecking display ads and Facebook plug-ins ads are popping up all over the place, and as soon as I close them out a other one pops up.

This is unacceptable and if it continues I'll have to add this forum as yet another one I quit visiting because of obnoxious advertising...

I can’t believe it’s 2021 and anyone still thinks autoplaying pop up videos are a good idea, I despise them. Very glad it’s relatively easy to turn them off.

I’m sure I regularly contribute by way of affiliate linked purchases (and I’m fine with that), but I hate invasive ads and I don’t think it’s a good look for the site for any prospective members checking out the forum if they’ve not created an account.

Looks like the ads just stopped, hopefully this was just a minor glitch. Ads aren't inherently a problem and are a necessary evil much of the time, but the invasive kind are.
