Is it best to order Drunken Master II from Amazon Japan or elsewhere? I thought (weirdly) you need a new account for Amazon.co.jp as it isnt linked like all the other Amazons?

According to steve_dave it's the same film disc across all three territories, so wouldn't the HK release be the cheapest option?

Thanks Shing I thought the specs posted were just talking about the Japan release.
According to the DDD House listing, the AR of the HK release is 1.78/1 I can't believe theyd release it with the wrong ratio.

Rumble in the Bronx and Drunken Master II were released by Studio Canal albeit with the shorter US cuts.

I said “yet” as a closing statement rather than one that gives hope. Studio Canal could re-release these as they sometimes do with popular titles. But I do not believe in the US or UK that we will see the complete versions of the films.

These releases with English SDH subtitles are the best for fans.

The HK, Korean, and Japanese share the same film disc: movie is 2.35:1, three language options, English SDH subtitles only.

The Japanese release adds a bonus disc with additional versions of the film.

It's a shame that there's no features, not even the trailer, and that the subtitles are dubtitles. But as the chance of us getting the complete version away from those bastards at Miramax are slim to none - it'll have to do.

I’m really just staring to resign myself to the fact that we’ll never get a proper release of this.

I noticed this Blu-ray has a different English dub than the old Legend of Drunken Master audio, and it’s much worse. The new English voice isn’t even Jackie.

But here’s the question that keeps me up at night. Is this Blu-ray’s Cantonese audio the same as the old original Drunken Master 2? In this Blu-ray are we hearing Jackie Chan and Anita Mui speaking in Cantonese?

I believe I read that Jackie didn’t dub his own voice in the Cantonese version.

Chan and Muiís voices are not in the original Cantonese mono or 5.1 remixes. The only time you hear Chanís voice is in the Dimension Film English dub.

These Blu-rays are from those film elements which is why these have the original mono tracks.

Fortune Star has nothing to do with:

Drunken Master II
Police Story IV: First Strike
Rumble In The Bronx
Mr. Nice Guy
Thunderbolt

They are Golden Harvest films with Warner Asia owning full rights. The first three Police Story films are Golden Harvest films with Fortune Star owning ownership rights and, currently, Kam & Ranson having distribution rights.

And that’s why Fortune Star is only able to license out the first three Police Story films and why the films listed above have yet to end up with Eureka! or Arrow.
Doesn't Warner still own Who am I?

Good for the most part, I spotted a couple of scenes where there's black crush and a few of the fighting scenes hue very hot. But for a film that gets very little love from labels, I'm happy with the results.

Just get the Japanese version which does include the US Dimension extra interview with JC in English. Plus, there is an easter egg and a nice little promo piece that lasts around 6min or so (no English sub on that one). But, yeah, no trailer. But, the booklet and mini posters are nice too. Plus, this new release is uncut.

Well, this is probably as good as it`s going to get. And, other than it being an older master, dubtitles for hearing impaired, it`s a pretty decent release. Of course, it could be better.

At least someone has posted screenshots so you can take a look for yourself. It might be hard to get an consensus.
