2020 Vizio TVs Official Thread

Since I'm highly looking forward to the Vizio M-Series Quantum TV, I figured why not start a official thread for not just that but for all Vizio TVs that are coming out this year. Vizio is also coming out with their first ever OLED TV this year too, looks really exciting, but can it be as good as the LG and Sony OLED TVs though?

They mentioned in an interview they’ve improved their processing. Hopefully that means they improved their handling of color gradients because that’s where they were lagging the most with previous models. Still, one of the best bang-for-you-buck TV brands.

When are the 2020 models supposed to start dropping? I'm very interested in the new P-Series and how it compares to the 2019 model.

Normally Vizio start releasing several of their new TVs around Spring and their high-end TVs around Summer. I expect more of the same with this year. Both the V-series and M-series in Spring, the P-series and their first OLED TV in Summer.

UPDATE: The TVs kinda got delayed a little bit because of the Chinese Virus mess we're living in right now. But now we're slowing getting past that with the reopening. According to Vizio, expect the TVs to get released at least around June 30th, so pretty much next month.

VIZIO flat panels for 2020 all have both Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10+. They are the only flat panel company that offers both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision HDR feature for the United States market. Those that own a 2016 OPPO UDP-203 and the latest Panasonic Blu-ray players will for the first time be able to watch both HDR10+ encoded Blu-ray’s and Dolby Vision HDR encoded Blu-rays from the exact same display. Thanks to HDMI 2.1 technology in all the VIZIO displays HDR10+ becomes a reality.

Now to be perfect we need a VIZIO OLED screen with both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision HDR and some people will upgrade their old plasma screens to a VIZIO if professional reviewers give a good review to the VIZIO OLED displays.

No longer the only brand to offer both HDR formats in the US. Hisense this year also supports both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision despite the former not being mentioned in the specs sheet for some reason. And TCL this year may also support both formats with their 2020 5 series, 6 series, and 8 series.

The two OLED flat panel leaders LG and Sony still do not support HDR10+. Only Dolby Vision HDR. When there is several 4K Blu-ray discs and streaming providers using HDR10+, then every company should support HDR10+.

I prefer Dolby Vision HDR over HDR10+, however when a certain studio decides to use HDR10+ instead of Dolby Vision HDR, then I would prefer to see the movie in HDR10+ instead of HDR10. Some 4K Blu-ray discs have all 3 HDR formats: Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HDR10.

According to the spec sheet only standard HDR10 and no HDR10+.

Really hoping they release sooner rather than later. I've been eyeing either the 2020 V-Series or M-Series Quantum as my first 4k TV.

On the topic of the M-Series Quantum, I've been seeing some conflicting information as to wether the 2020 version will have a 43'' model (that's the best size for my current space). The information that came out around CES didn't indicate it, but the Vizio site says there will be.

I’d suggest to go with the M Series Quantum. I had the 2019 43” V Series in my bedroom for almost a year, until I replaced it with a 49” Sony X950H. The 2019 V Series is a very basic 4K tv. I enjoyed watching bright scenes on it, and for a full array panel without local dimming, it could get decently dark. But, it struggled with shadow detail, and crushed a lot of information in dark scenes. Also, the color is flat on the V series. I’m much happier with the Sony than the V series.

If you could at all possibly go up to a 49”, I’d recommend the Sony. But, if you are deciding between the V and M Series from Vizio, without a doubt, I’d purchase the M Quantum Series. At least then you’d get the quantum dot color layer that would help make color “pop” more on the M series.

Thank you for the insight. If both 2020 models have 43'' versions, I'll likely go with the M-Series Quantum.

In the event that only the 2020 V-Series has a 43'' version, should I go with that or with last year's M? Would last year's M-Series panel be enough to offset the lack of HDMI 2.1 and HDR 10+ (both present on the 2020 V)?

@dmmdoublem Despite not being mentioned in the press for some reason, the 2020 Vizio M-series will get a 43 inch model (M7 version only, the slightly better M8 version will only be offered in 55 and 65 inch sizes). So if I were you, I would wait & see what happens first before going with the 2019 model.

Any display or consumer electronics product that offers HDR10+, needs to mention it in the spec sheets or owners manual, or most consumers will think HDR10+ is not offered at all for those models.

The Vizio website now lists the 2021 collection as "launching" June 30th.

Unfortunately, there's still some confusion over wether the M-Series Quantum will have a 43'' version. The Vizio site doesn't list a 43'' version anymore, but the comment from Vizio Support on this Reddit thread makes this seem like a typo and suggests that there will be one. Fingers crossed that's the case.

Update: Vizio Support just said no 43'' M-Series for 2020. Bummer.

Looks like it'll most likely be the V-Series for me, then. A couple of other manufacturers' budget models have caught my eye, though (namely, the Hisense R6090G, LG UN7300 and TCL 5 Series). I'll definitely give those a look as I wait for more Vizio info to release.

I own the 2019 PQ65 model, great tv so far.

Mostly interested in the 2020 PQX model for the VRR (use my TV 80%pc gaming, 20% movie watching), altought i don't own a HDMI 2.1 device to use that 4K VRR LOL :0

I know the smartfeature are super slow but i own a Nvidia Shield so i really don't care about those

I've owned the PX75-G1 for a few months, after having the P75-C1 for 3 years, but that 85" is screaming my name.

If it improves gradients, which is my only real complaint with em, I may be all in.

Actually, the smart TV features are supposedly upgraded on the 2020 line.

The more I think about the more I feel like this television will make a good living room TV:

85" screen
HDR with up to 3,000 nits peak brightness (one of the highest figures available unless one counts the 8K Sony)
All HDR formats: HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and HDR OTA
Black Frame Insertion (can do maximum panel motion resolution -- Plasma/CRT levels)
ALLM
HDMI 2.1 on all ports

The features list is impressive and pushes it closer to Sony/LG territory (perhaps even surpassing the bigger players in some key areas). Outstanding specs.

One of the only potential down sides I can think of is that the built in upscaling abilities are supposedly average in 2019 models. But pair a Oppo or other high end player and let the player upscale and one is good-to-go.
