Some directors can kick things off with a Citizen Kane or a 400 Blows or a Badlands but most are not so fortunate!

Kim Newman's piece on the extra works does a great job of contextualising them in Cronenberg's career - pointing out, for example, that the themes in Transfer would come up as recently in Cronenberg's career as A Dangerous Method.

Didn't agree with his comments bemoaning what he saw as Cronenberg's retreat from filming his own original scripts in favour of adapting others work. Crash is the apotheosis of Cronenberg's film making and writing and is certainly more squarely a reworking of Videodrome than eXistenZ.

Got my email saying it has been sent today! Shouldn't be too much longer a wait!

I'd love to see an Arrow release of Cronenberg's "Crash".

The UK rights are owned by Sony so highly unlikely unfortunately.

Just managed to get this now that I have an A,B,C player.

I guess Arrow must have underestimated how fast this one would sell since they were even sending out review copies to people in different countries that couldn't even view the disc on their player. Hopefully they won't do this with other limited editions so people who can play the discs and are willing to pay for it can get it.

Don't they tend to just send screener copies though, not the entire limited package?

I think it depends, DaveSimonH. If it's meant for YouTube channel reviewers then it's probably going to be a retail version.

Sending review copies for this was rather pointless considering they had probably sold out 95% by the time the first review hit.

Now there's a bunch of recent reviews with no product to buy.

Correct, if the reviewers can't even view it on their player then there would be no point sending them the discs only since they're getting the free copies to display and show off the packaging in their videos to attract potential consumers.

I still think that it's an absurd business choice to give away free copies of extremely limited items that are guaranteed to sell out fast, especially when the reviewer can't do anything except talk about the packaging.

I think the advent of YouTubers reviewing copies has sparked some debate. It's really no different than journalists being sent things to review, only the representation of your product might not be as professional, but it gets attention. The coverage counts and isn't absurd business sense I don't think, as I'm sure they have more than the limited number for replacements/review copies etc. Society was limited but didn't exactly sell out quick, so they're just promoting it really. And collectors are more likely to want something if they see someone just like them showing it off in a video.

We were sent out copies that look like this for review, which is standard Arrow practice and pretty much par for the course with most of the British film distributors.

It's doubtful that it's any more than a handful that are put to one side for unboxing videos too. I'd be surprised if it was more than 10 copies.

Yeah, I'm in the community and can probably count on my hand the YTers who regularly receive them to review.

My copy arrived from Amazon.it today -- only 6 days to get to California! I'd like to thank the members who mentioned Amazon.it as a source, or else I'd be left in the dust with this one. Arrow really does make some beautiful box sets -- my fourth one purchased and happy with them all. I'm dying to see how the Battles Without Honor and Humanity will look!
