Gollum and Sauron?

Eh, if all else fails they can just full up Denethor's castle and Saruman's tower with chicks.

His Dark Material would be interesting--it's a shame the Golden Compass movie didn't do better. Dragonriders of Pern and the Chronicles of Amber would be awesome to see adapted as well.

Seeing as the Dark Tower movie didn't do well critically, I figure it might fare better as a series. Wouldn't mind seeing that.

Regardless, fantasy fiction is a damn big genre, no shortages of stories to draw from.

That's before any production costs. Just rights costs only. Wow.
So much for free shipping.

There's so many storylines from the trilogy movies they couldn't cover or couldn't cover in depth that the possibilities are endless. Of course, if all else fails, She-Elves gone wild works for me

amazon video had to do something, losing the rights to hbo content in 2018. they need a real show that everyone knows and wants to watch or hulu is going to pass them.

makes more financial sense for amazon to get in touch with sony about the wheel of time series. sony still needs a network and would probably be cheaper.

The BBC are doing their own adaptation of His Dark Materials.

For the love of god, just make Dune into a TV Series with money behind it. It's essentially GoT in space anyway and in the right hands be just as good or even better than GoT

There is so much to Lord of the Rings, even 3 extra long moves couldn't contain it all. I've read it three times and it still won't all fit into my brain.

I am all for this. Movies have become huge special event spectacles and series are now where the deep stories are told. The budgets have increased and characters are developed more with huge arcs instead of small contained episodes. They could make the most dramatically detailed version of Lord of the Rings getting on a personal level with so many characters, covering so many dynamics that are still so relevant today. Bring it on!

I hope they read all the books before adapting the series, otherwise we'll be in a "shit ... we really should have read the books before taking this on ..." situation.

Wasn't someone working on adapting The Wheel of Time? I wonder what happened to that? TWoT is awesome!

Very unexpected news. I am intrigued though. This will require a really excellent and driven showrunner. If Bezos really is a genre nerd, that might be a good sign. Maybe they can even take another crack at The Hobbit. Definitely more room for improvement there when comparing the films.

I'm down for that. Just got the Dune book recently but haven't cracked it open. But I think Villaneuve is trying to make it for the big screen, and after seeing Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, I kinda wanna see his version more than an Amazon streaming version.

Phil Pullman is heavily involved apparently, and I'm not surprised after what happened with the movie version.
