This sounds like it could be the worst film ever made.

I know, but the caffeine's kicking in and I'm in a deliberately hyperbolic mood.

Sonic as a franchise is all but dead. They not only haven't made a good Sonic game in awhile they make ones that are terribly bad. The franchise has little relevance that it used to. Kids no longer walk around in Sonic shirts like they do with Mario. Sega completely ran Sonic into the ground with s*** games. Why would a collaboration on a movie turn out better? The cartoon in the 90's was fun, but couldn't translate to a movie. Especially not with Sega involved.

Also to celebrate his 26th anniversary....who celebrates that?

If Sony is going to keep going to the gaming well they should possibly pick some more relevant games. They have Angry Birds coming and now Sonic. They can't do any better than that?

'To celebrate the 26th anniversary' to me suggests they tried to get it released this year (25th) but couldn't finish it time so decided it would celebrate 26 years instead.

Sonic's still hugely relevant. He's second only to Mario in terms of relevance.

Where the heck do you get this from? He is known he is not relevant. People know what Blackberry is. Is Blackberry relevant? No. The games don't garner the media coverage they used to, they don't score well, they don't sell well (Lost World sold 380 thousand), merchandise has slowed to a crawl. If anything is number 2 to Mario it is Minecraft. Sonic isn't anywhere near relevant.

Minecraft is nowhere near Sonic in terms of status. Yes, Minecraft is hugely popular but Sonic is a major gaming mascot. I think you are far more likely to find someone who'd be interested in watching a Sonic The Hedgehog movie than a Minecraft one.

The budget will around $100 million. The target audience will be around 100 people.

As for Sonic being only behind Mario in mascot recognition, Master Chief and Nathan Drake have something to say about that.

I disagree, Master Chief and Nathan Drake are nowhere near as iconic.

You can't be serious. The last Sonic moved 380,000 units. Minecraft on Xbox 360 ALONE moved 8.64 million units. That isn't even counting PC, Vita, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Android, and iOS. It isn't even close. If a Minecraft movie and a Sonic movie came out on the same day Minecraft would obliterate Sonic in the box office. Major gaming mascot means absolutely nothing. Crash Bandicoot and Sweet Tooth were mascots and how relevant are they?

I wonder if it'll be as technically inept as the games themselves have been as of late.

Flappy Bird is more relevant than Sonic

Crash Bandicoot was hardly on the same level as Sonic and I don't even know who Sweet Tooth is. When you think of video games, you think of Mario and then you think of Sonic. You don't think of Minecraft or Uncharted.

I think of Zelda, Mario and Metroid when I think of classic and iconic games.
