Question for folks who have purchased 4K discs from India ( Excel etc.) . What's the quality like ? Are they "seldom hits mostly misses" quality like Indian blu ray discs or better ? Are they imported discs or locally manufactured by Sony DADC ?

Thanks in advance

The ones bought from Excel are imported from Austria and repacked by Excel. These do not have a digital code. The ones that have a digital code are imports from UK.

I don't have a 4K player yet, so cannot confirm about the quality.

Friends, I need some help. Like for example- if I purchase a 4K Blu-ray player from UK, it will play all 4K discs no matter from where it is purchased but will it play any region normal Blu-ray Disc ? Or it will still play only region B titles only?
Secondly, what if I connect the 4K player to normal full HD tv, will the 4K disc start in normal full HD resolution (downscale from 4K) or will it not play at all ?

Thanks for your help in clearing my doubts

4k discs are region free, so that shouldn't be an issue. But, for 1080p blus, region coding still applies, and will play only the discs locked to B. If you connect the player to a 1080p TV, the 4k image will be downscaled to HD (with a few compromises in visual fidelity due to HDR -> SDR conversion).

Hi everyone. Just observed something on Amazon (India).

It looks like the upcoming release of Avengers: Infinity War (3D) has a high resolution 5.1 DTS track, as opposed to 7.1 DTS-HD MA elsewhere (like the UK release).

Proceed with caution if you're planning to purchase this from Sony India.

The Steelbook:

Good catch Kiri, I'm sure people will appreciate the warning. On a lighter note, the 4K seems to have an audio track described as Dolby Atoms, maybe some new India-specific technology

Personally, I refuse to buy anything that has 'SONY DADC' written on it. They have single handedly turned me off Indian Blu-ray releases of English movies. Pathetic, is an understatement to describe them.

I agree. Barring a few untouched releases (probably Fury Road), their disc authoring process basically involves sacrificing lossless audio for the sake of regional language tracks. Happened with Captain America: Civil War and the 5th Pirates movie as well. It gets annoying after a while..

'Manchester by the Sea' from Reliance seems to be identical to the European release from Universal, with the French and German ratings printed on the label of the disc.

It has been going on sale from the past few days on the lightning deals, at INR 449.

I got the 2-disc digibook edition and the 3D disc had 5.1 DTS-HD MA, which is the case elsewhere, but the 2D disc had a 7.1 Dobly Digital Plus track with a constant bitrate of 1.5 Mbps which was actually labelled as Dolby Atmos in the menu. I'm guessing they compromised the quality of the primary audio track (secondary one being the 5.1 DTS MA) to include regional audio tracks, but I want to check if that's the case with everyone.
Also, I think I figured this out: I'm guessing that the Atmos audio, on the 2D disc, itself was lossy. Hence, the core track was 7.1 DD+, as opposed to the usual core TrueHD I encounter while playing Atmos on my system.

Default Is it just me or did the Blade Runner Steelbooks pop up all of a sudden on Amazon IN?

After enduring loads of stress and anticipation (and eventually, disappointment) from purchasing the standard WWA variant of 'Blade Runner 2049', it is sort of bittersweet to see the same released in India by Excel as a 4-disc 4K combo.
What's great is they also released the Mondo Artwork Variant as a 3-disc 3D steel, which I believe is a first for the Indian market.
Also, the original Blade Runner's Final Cut is available in a 4K steel. As far as I know, these listings popped up all of a sudden and I believe that they are all recent additions.

Hello Guys,

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up.

The User @karans and @avrm48 are the same. His name is Amrit Verma and he is in Gurgaon.

He was selling UHD 4K discs from USA, at very attractive prices. He has now taken money from people from this forum and outside (as advance for some 4K titles) however is not delivering the items and is unresponsive, not responding to calls or messages.

Please BEWARE of him and do not deal with him. He might just open another account here and try to sell.

Hey everyone. I have a question about BDs manufactured and/or distributed by WB in France. While I'm aware that most Sony and Universal titles being circulated in France (or the EU, for that matter) are English-language friendly, I need to know if WB's discs would be so, too. I was planning to order few titles to a friend's address. If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know.
