Default Movies Anywhere hits 6 million accounts in it's first year.

https://variety.com/2018/digital/new...ds-1203023433/

By comparison, UltraViolet has 30 million accounts, but it took them 5 years to get there. I bet Movies Anywhere will grow at a faster pace, especially if Xfinity and another studio joins up.

The most interesting thing is they are planning to let users organize their collections in different ways.

I can't wait to see what they come up with.

Nice to have a reference for this:

Quote:
While Movies Anywhere is owned by the Walt Disney Co., it operates independently from offices in Burbank, Calif., with a dedicated staff of about 100 employees (mostly engineers). “It still feels really like a startup,” said Gilford. As GM, she reports to an advisory board with representatives from the five studio partners.

The five studios each providing funding to Movies Anywhere, but there’s no fee for retailers to participate. “The notion is that all boats rise,” said Gilford.

wow, 6 million, that's cool, but, when will they start supporting 4K/DV/HDR/ATMOS?

Just my opinion, I don't imagine they will, as playback may be limited to HD purposefully since Movies Anywhere itself is not a 'storefront' and is intended to promote the member studios and member 'storefronts' - some of which do offer those features.

But I could be totally wrong...

They may someday, but I agree. They offer basic functionality for people who create an account and redeem a code for the first time (and a user experience that kids can manage on an iPad), but they aren't trying to compete directly with their retailer partners.
