That cover is seriously up there with the infamous Chinese bootleg cover for Lost in Translation for sheer WTF-ness.

I'm still gonna buy it since it's the best thing we've got, but man do these absolutely no frills Shock releases upset me. Can't they put in a tiny bit of effort?

I don't have the ability to take screencaps at the moment,

It doesn't look great, no clean up at all, lots of specs and vertical lines.

I went to check it out. It's one of those super cheap plain blue cases that don't even have the Blu-ray logo on the top. The print quality on the artwork is piss poor too, and no slipcover (not that they were any good). I want it, but $20 seems steep for what it is. I was hoping they've have those new editions of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Last of the Mohicans out too, but they only had the single disc versions. Wasted trip

I'd just hold out for the next 2 for $20, or B2G1F sale and see if The Tenant is in either of them as it will only be around $8-10 each which is the most I will pay for a barebones mediocre shock title. That being said at $7 or less like a few in the 4 for $20 sale I have ordered are def worth it imo, even though they are barebones and the audio on some is only lossy

Does it look heavily processed or filtered?

Sounds like the "HD" version that's already available for streaming, which doesn't look that much better than the DVD.

Here's a clip from YouTube:

I wouldn't say heavily, it has some filtering for sure and the image isn't vibrant, but that's probably from the supplied transfer, I don't think Shock butchered a 4k scan or anything. It probably is the same streaming version.

I flicked though me copy of the Blu Ray today and whilst its an improvement over the DVD, its not a huge one. Visually it looks good but I'll need to actually watch it. Mind you, even the DVD looked better than the print I saw at the cinema back in the 1980s.

Only $11 in US dabloons. May have to pull the trigger on this. I'm surprised someone like Kino didn't pick up the rights. Seems like this is the perfect time to release Polanski's back catalog with Once Upon A Time In Hollywood traveling the world.

One of my favourite horror films of all time. Great suspense, great mood and of course the soundtrack is a masterpiece. A perfect companion piece to Repulsion and Rosemary's Baby. Really would be surprised if Criterion do not release this, since they have already released the other two films that make up Polanski's informal Urban Paranoia Trilogy, Criterion not releasing The Tenant seems almost like an incomplete scratch. Really do hope they release soon.

I mean, it's an old master, but everyone should've expected that from the start.

That rumor has been around for a while though, I think, and in the current climate, with Polanski's new films not even getting US releases, I can see Criterion quietly avoiding any more of his titles.
