Star Wars will likely have a strong showing too, as well as some earlier films like Inception and The Social Network.

Lists will undoubtedly be biased toward 2015-2019 though. It’s only human. My own list was a little top heavy before I had to go back and read some of my old reviews / watch some trailers to refresh my memory on my takeaway on some of those top films and why I love them so. It’s not so much that they’re not as memorable as it is that far more time has passed compared to the recent ones.

For those still making their lists, maybe try to look at the distribution of release years of the movies on your list and see if that recency bias is there. Especially if it has been much longer since you’ve seen the ones that aren’t placing high / didn’t make the list. Revisiting reviews, trailers, & soundtracks can help as well.

I think that is what makes this particular voting thread different than the year-end threads. It is comparing a substantially wider gap in time, so I think that’s an important consideration to keep in mind.

Funny it’s the exact opposite for me. Only 4 movies from that year made my list of 75. It was a mix of being quite busy that year and really not jiving with the acclaimed titles.

2012, 2015, and 2017 seem to be the most represented for me. Out of those 2015 would be my favorite year (Mad Max, Star Wars, The Revenant, Sicario, Ex Machina, holy cow!).

I'm struggling to find many 2018 and 2019 films that really wow me enough to vote on. May have to revisit this thread in December, if the poll is still running then. By then I'll reevaluate Joker, probably catch up on stuff I missed, and maybe get around to seeing A Hidden Life (thanks DJ for giving me the heads-up on that--the trailer alone looked like a work of art).

One film I've been wanting to see the most is Tom Lowe's Awaken. It premiered a year ago at a film festival but it's only just now making its rounds in US theaters. Doubt it'll hit BD/UHD until next year. I might have to revise and add TimeScapes to my list in the meantime.
