I think it is just a very mediocre film, nothing special about it. It also came out during a large wave of superhero movies especially origin movies. I have not seen it in years but I tend to remember certain aspects of movies and I only remember a couple of interesting visual shots; all the other memories are of poor filmaking and cheesiness.

I've been told the director's cut improves the film; I guess I should give it a try ... now that I own it

Just finished it for the first time, Iliked it. Better than I expected.

Farrel was pretty lame in most scenes, but besides that I thought it was good (though obviously not on the same playing field as say Iron Man). Afleck was better than I thought he would be.

I thought it was terrible namely because of the performances...very stiff and unconvincing IMO...I felt almost all of the actors/actresses were miscast. I also don't find the story that absorbing....Daredevil would make a great side character in a bigger story, but I find him too minor and non-compelling to carry his own movie.

At the time, there were some grumbles that it didn't look as "big" compared to Spidey and X-Men (remember, folks, this was before Fantastic Four and the Ang Lee Hulk)--
As for the maniacal dogpiling and wish that all prints of the movie be burned and the ashes buried in a toxic Nevada site, most of that was very visibly due to boiling resentments over Ben Affleck, as this was before "Gigli" became our cathartic outlet for cheap celebrity jokes....Had we but known ahead of time, the more innocent movie might have been spared.

I'd defended the movie from unjust hysteria-persecution at the time, and having seen it recently, I'll concede that there are a few reasons why it's not the best, but none of them involve Affleck.
A wildly camp-overacting Colin Farrell, maybe, but Affleck and Michael Clarke Duncan are blameless.
(As for a pre-Iron Man Jon Favreau as the goofy law-partner...hey, he's trying his best, but good to have less of him in the theatrical cut.)

As that constituted most of the movie in the original cut, and chopping it out in the theatrical cut didn't leave much comic-book action left, and a general feeling at the end of "Um, did a plot happen, or did I miss it?"

I've always wondered why the hate for DD. I really like that movie. The soundtrack is pretty solid and it had a dark feel to it and it's a fun movie overall. The problem was the villains. They were pretty unconvincing, especially Kingpin. I thought Affleck and Garner were good in it though.

I like it better than a lot of comic films though...i.e. Fantastic 4 movies, the first Hulk, Spiderman 3, X-Men 3.

I've always wanted a sequel.

I liked it ok. It wasn't great, but I thought it was way better than the Fantastic Four movies. Casting Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin didn't work for me though.

What he said.

Also the choreographed "fight" between Affleck and Garner was totally cringe-worthy, the actors didn't care enough about the choreograph, that says a lot.

Personally, I think Daredevil, Ghost Rider and both FF films were utter garbage.

Because...never, ever, in a million years would I buy the notion of Ben Affleck as a competent attorney.

Well said. Ben Affleck is just not up to par to play an action hero. He always looks like an awkward teenager going through a growth spurt. They could of casted Crispin Glover as a more realistic super hero.

The first time I saw it I was underwhelmed. The second time, knowing it was cheesy and a bit mindless, I enjoyed it a lot for what it was.
