Default PS5 Final Fantasy IX Remake (Rumor 2026)

Prepare to heave your heart torn out again Final Fantasy fans ... Vivi may be back in 2026 according to a recent rumor!

Quote:
The leaker who originally outed the existence of Persona 3 Remake has hinted that Final Fantasy 9 Remake may be exclusive to the PS5, and its release window is a ways away. Final Fantasy 9 Remake has yet to be officially announced but it was mentioned in the infamous Nvidia GeForce Now leak, which has turned out to be accurate thus far.

When is Final Fantasy 9 Remake expected to release?
ResetEra user Im A Hero Too claims to have “seen” Final Fantasy 9 Remake and has said that it’s “definitely not coming” to the Nintendo Switch. Although they didn’t mention Xbox or PC, Im A Hero Too says the game has “Sony written all over it,” hinting at a PS5 exclusive launch. They then went on to claim that Final Fantasy 9 Remake is “at least” two years away.

After Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake PS5 exclusivity rumors were debunked, we’d advise taking this one with a grain of salt. However, Square Enix and Sony have a notorious partnership that sees the publisher’s games prioritize PlayStation platforms, often skipping Xbox altogether.

Considering the accuracy of the Nvidia GeForce Now leak, it’s probably only a matter of time before Square Enix announces Final Fantasy 9 Remake.

Oooh, yeah...that would be nice.

I'm one of the few fans of FF8 though, so I want to see that first...

Just give us HD remasters of Dragon Quest 8, Chrono Trigger, and Parasite Eve. Though I would also love a remake of Dragon Quest 8 with DQ11's graphics and skill system.

Also HD 2-D remasters of Dragon Quest 1, 2, and 4.

I remember that FF7 used to be the big name entry everybody talked about and tbh, i missed the boat as a kid on that entry and all the PS1 releases. My entry point was FFX and i think it was a perfect entry for me into the series although apart from FFX-2, i never got to finish FF13 and its sequel as well as having completely skipped FF12 and although i own it now, unfortunately i didn't finish it (story of my life FML).

I did hear a lot of people say they felt FF9 had one of the most amazing stories but that they felt it got overshadowed by FF7 having come earlier and never quite got the praise it deserved. I'm actually interested to see how a remake would loom for it and hopefully to play.

FF9 was the last FF game with Nobuo Uematsu doing the entire soundtrack. I really like FF7 remake's music, so I'm looking forward to hearing FF9 remake's.

I’d take 6, 8 or 9 remade. Arguably 8 needs it more than 9 but I’ll take either tbh. Full VA should hopefully be a no-brainer.

Hm, maybe start by FINISHING FFVII remake?

I want to play it but i do NOT want to play one part or two. so i've been waiting forever to play the damn FULL game.

Part 1 was freaking 3 YEARS ago! i don't see why they don't have an actual release strategy...

You’re aware they’re a giant company and have multiple teams, no? And, each game of the 7R project is a full game. The first game alone is 30-40 hours for one playthrough. The title is a play on words;
[Show spoiler]It isn’t really a remake

They legally can’t do anything with Parasite Eve unless Hideaki Sena has a change of heart and lets them relicense the IP. It’s why we ended up with The 3rd Birthday instead of a legitimate PE3, and why T3B has zero acknowledgment of PE1&2.

I’d much rather VI remade in the style of the Trials of Mana remake instead of the style of the VII remake. Would likely mean a much lower budget, can keep a bit more of the fantastical look rather than a realistic look and be able to make it just one game.

The only reason I am interested in a FF9 remake is that they are keeping the turn based combat.

I would like a FF6 remake if they keep turn based combat.

I don't care how good the game looks, if you don't like the combat system, you don't have a reason to play.

There is a FFIX Remake fan concept made in UE5 here, not sure if SE is going to try shutting this down.

Oh, that would be nice if they kept the turn-based combat. IX is my favorite of the series, would love to see Kuja, Quina, Garnet, Vivi, etc. in modern CGI takes of all the major scenes.

I like the fact each character had unique abilities though I wish you could get better stats at the later levels and could max out your HP/MP(9999/999).
