Unable to get 24p?

Hi all, I've tried a lot of searches but I'm unable to figure out my issue.

I have a Sony BDP-BX1 (BDP-S350) and a Mitsubishi WD-73837 (73" DLP). While watching a Blu-ray movie looks amazing it's missing that 24p look I see in stores so often. I was wondering if there is anyone with a similar setup that may know where I'm going wrong.

The TV is set to 120Hz and I've forced the 24p on the player but it's still not working.

If anyone had ideas on what I should check I would appreciate it.

are you watching the same tv with the same disc and the same player in the store as at home? There are a number of variables to be considered beyond those that could come into play because it sounds like your settings are correct; I had never heard of a 120hz DLP and was about to call hogwash.

What it sounds like to me is that "the 24p look" you see in stores might actually be the motion interpolation that a lot of 120hz LCDs have. The 120hz refresh rate alone actually won't produce that look. Does the Mitsubishi have any motion interpolation settings? Personally, I don't like how the picture looks when these settings are on, but some people do prefer it.

That he's talking about features on an LCD but he has a DLP is throwing me off. I had to check out that model of display and was surprised to see this 120hz...

After searching your set, it looks like it actually doesn't do a true 5:5 pull down. See this previous post by HDTV1080p:

The 120HZ Mitsubishi LCD flat panels and 120HZ Rear Projectors all add a 3:2 pulldown process to the 1080P/24 signal. The 1080P/24 signal is first converted to 60HZ and then to 120HZ. Hopefully future models of LCD's and Rear Projectors from Mitsubishi will offer a true 5:5 pulldown mode for 120HZ models.

Your tv has 120hz too... on the VGA input.

"The Mitsubishi can accept a 1080p/24 input but can't display it at a rate that's a direct multiply of 24 (48, 72, 96, etc). Instead, to reach 120 hertz, it first converts it to 1080p/60 by adding 3:2 pulldown."

I'm guessing that's similar to my problem, thank you for that link, SumSuperman. Ahhh the things you learn only after you learn you need to know them.
