FWIW the Eizou Hakusho OVAs and the first movie have been previously released by Funimation. The DVD is still in print and currently on sale for $15.79 (47% off) through Amazon.

Taking a wild guess here, it's possible it comes from a different licensor (same one as the movie), and they can't.

They gave the rights to one company to dub it in the 90s but now that no one has the rights they won’t give funimation/crunchyroll the dubbing rights for the movie.

Whoa that looks very nice! Comes out to $81 between the pre-order discount and my GotAnime membership.

It doesn't seem to be a collector's/limited edition though, so I think I'll wait for a future sale. It can get cheaper with time.

With the RS preorder discount, the GA discount, and a 10% off coupon it’s about $70 not counting tax. Honestly not bad, especially once I sell off my old blus to offset the costs.

If only they had done a new transfer. Some of the Dark Tournament episodes had hair on them

Probably not up to them. They're using the Japanese restoration, which they're stuck with unless Pierrot does a new scan.

I saw someone else post this and they made a great point. This set is missing the two theatrical films, making it a worthless set.

Except it includes the new OVA, so I wouldn't call it worthless. Is it disappointing that it's only the TV series and new OVA? Yes. But to call it worthless purely because it doesn't include everything, that's not a great point. This is also the first time the whole TV series has been sold in one go, it's been at the fewest 4 different "seasons" on Blu-ray and DVD.

Who knows, though it should be noted that it took a rather long time for them to rescue the first movie and to get the Eizou Hakusho OVAs. At least the old Central Park Media DVDs aren't particularly expensive.

yeah i wouldn't say it's worthless. it has new content and the entire series in one go. It's a great entry point into the series. perhaps if this set does well they will put the effort into releasing the other content. The fact that they keep releasing this series means crunchyroll has fans of the series. They might be testing waters with this release to propose the movie license.

it's probably hard for crunchyroll people to license older anime since (funimation) has always focused mostly on new stuff.
