Too many to choose from. But since I recently watched The Matrix (to recover after suffering through Resurrections) I nominate this one:

And the best car chase scene of all time, just amazing how well this was shot and edited:

I think the shootout at the end of THE WILD BUNCH is mesmerizing, adrenaline pumping perfection!

Completely agree. This is why the film is a masterpiece.

The opening sequence is probably even more intense since the audience is totally unprepared for being thrown into the middle of a battle and being shot at from all sides. Both shocking and exhilarating!

Just too many in my book. There’s so many great action scenes in cinema that don’t even involve fighting and hand-to-hand combat.

X2 - Nightcrawler opening attack in White House
Speed - almost the entire movie
Commando - final compound shootout
Expendables 2 - opening action scene
Hard Target - Mardi Gras graveyard shootout
M:I - Fallout - entire final helicopter chase
T2 - flood canal chase
Aliens - first encounter in the Alien hive
Predator - guerilla compound shootout
John Wick - pick one
Bourne Ultimatum - rooftop race to fight Desh
Matrix - lobby shootout
Indiana Jones - again, take your pick

Both have a good mix of action and adventure. Spielberg was a master at scenes like these. John Williams' score makes them feel epic. The E.T. scenes still give me chills.

Levcore, what is yours? Maybe something from the Mad Max series?

Action scenes that initially dropped my jaw to the floor in awe would include:

There are too many to list IMO. So many amazing action scenes in movies. Jackie Chan, Van Damme, Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Jet Li, Iko Iwais, Tony Jaa, and many more action star and martial artists with some amazing fight or action scenes.

Blade 1's opening Blood Dance Club scene where Blade appears and wipes the floor with his enemies, was amazing IMO.

And another amazing action scene, would be Obi Wan vs Darth Maul's battle.

Railway runaway train fight in Spider-Man 2, Tobe Maguire Spider-Man vs Doc Oc.

When Prince Nuada feels betrayed by his father, and wipes out the armored soldiers against him. That was an awesome scene too.

At the end of Fellowship of the Ring, Aragorn vs Lurtz the Uruk Hai boss was epic and one of those bad@ss action scene moments for me.

I could keep going but I'll stop there. But I would definitely put in the kitchen fight scene with Iko Uwais in Raid 2. That was insanely good.

These are the kind of action scenes I love to see in a movie that is action based.

John Wick 1 has some classic stuff in there too. Rambo First Blood in terms of extended action scenes, Rambo 2004, Terminator 2, etc.

This is only the 2nd half of it, but I haven't seen anything like it since. No other Michael Mann film action scene could top it or get close IMO.

Very intense/impressive in terms of action, and I was floored by it and the echoing sound effects of the battle. Amazing, yet tragic action scene. Definitely one of the best action scenes for sure IMO.

That moment when Chow Yun-Fat comes down those stairs while shooting, gives me goosebumps every time.

Best Van Damme movie ever as well as being Woo's best American movie.

My fav RE movie; needs to be seen in 3D though.

All action scenes in both The Raid movies.

Honorable mention:

The part where the cars are spinning and Ethan and Nyah are looking at each other is pure art. Woo is a genius. M: I 2 remains my favorite M: I after the first one.
