Default Batwoman Discussion Thread

Okay so I just started reading the New 52 series of Batwoman. Just finished Issue #00 and was damn impressed. I'm intrigued despite never reading a Batwoman comic before.

I have a question though for those who have read issue #00.

She talks about how
[Show spoiler]she was kicked out of West Point, and then she started moonlighting as Batwoman with stolen Military gear. She said her father found out and sent her off to be trained by these badasses overseas and she just went through hell with it.

There's also stuff about her being kidnapped and her sister dying and whatnot.

Was any of that covered in past issues? Because I want to read the more indepth look at those instances rather than be satisfied with the cliff notes version of this one issue.

Thanks for any help.

Yes.

[Show spoiler]When she and her twin sister were little, they were kidnapped. Her dad told her that her twin sister was killed, but actually, they just never found her. Her twin sister grew up to become a villainess named Alice, and they fight in a couple of issues.

Batwoman got kicked out of West Point because she's a lesbian. She was at school back when the military still outlawed homosexuals.

I read the first few issues . I enjoy the new 52 rendition of Batgirl. But I must admit that I miss Cassandra Cain as Batgirl. I hope they find something interesting to do with her character. Does anyone know if they will be doing something with her in the future?

Just finished reading Issue #17 (the current one). Wow this is a fantastic book. Really enjoy this and have a bit to say about it. Will be writing up a blog post on the character and the impact of her sexuality.

I'm waiting for a collection of the most recent story since I'd prefer to read and own it that way. I had been buying the floppies, but the second story arc (the one that kept jumping around and that didn't have J.H. Williams art) lost me. The Batwoman: Elegy book is awesome.

Just finished Elegy as well. Its deff worth reading. And I look forward to reading it again. The topic of Kane's sexuality doesn't bother me in the least. It actuality adds to the realism of the story simply because it depicts her as a human being with emotions needs wants etc.

Waiting for my friend to bring over the issues so I can see how the story develops!

I gave Batwoman a try way back during the Countdown days. Have enjoyed it ever since and glad she wasn't touched one bit during the N52 change over. Besides the heady storylines, the panel layout design is phenomenal!!

I've also been reading the N52 Wonder Woman and N52 Justice League titles. Imo WW is much better written and drawn in Batwoman and WW than in JL. Anyone enjoying Batwoman might want to give the WW title a try. It's steeped in Greek mythology, so lots of epic tragedy and gods everywhere, and well drawn too.
