What are you using to format the USB Flash drive? On page 53 of your user manual, when you go to Setup -> System Setup -> BD Data Management does it detect the external memory?

The manual also lists the following note:

Quote:
Only those USB devices formatted in FAT file system (DOS 8.3 volume label) are supported, and it is recommended to use USB devices that support USB 2.0 protocol, 4 MB/sec or faster read/write speed.
I'm guessing it has something to do with the way those devices are formatted.

i used swissknife program to do the format. i read the manual and i thought if it was just in fat32 that it would work but i guess not. The player sees it in the main setup but not in the usb setup. thats what i dont understand.

Have you tried formatting the USB drive as FAT16?

Also, in terms of the "DOS 8.3 Volume label" make sure the volume label is 11 characters or shorter and don't use the long filename support/option.

This article talks a bit about 8.3 filenames. When formatting the drive and it asks for a Volume Label (Name) make sure the name your specify is 11 characters or less and all upper case.

Unfortunately, Sammy is more specific as to whether they follow the format to the letter.

Hi all!

I bought a BD-P1600 from a friend and just discovered that it is a US version - I'm in Brazil. So, without knowing it I plug it to the Internet and got the latest US firmware update. The problem is that I can't play any movies from external drives through usb, front or back.

I found out that there was a way to do that, by changing the letters from the Brazilian FW in order to trick the machine. Seems like the Brazilian FW lets you play movies from usb since we don't have , since we don't have Flixter or Pandora.

So I went on and tried that, downloaded the Brazilian FW, opened it with Workshop Hex editor, changed the first XAX into XAA (I found out that I only needed to change the first one, after several attempts changing all of them), put it a FAT32 formatted pen drive, turned on the BD-P1600, stuck the pen drive and... error - message "Error in update data" (or something in those lines). And that's all I get.

I tried to downgrade to US FW 2.12 and still got the same message. In fact I get the same message no matter the FW that I try.

So my question is simple: I am stuck with this? Did Samsung, with the 2.13 FW "solve" the turnaround thingy? Is there ANY way I can solve this problem or do I have just to live with it (until I sell the damn thing to another duck)?

Any help will be fully appreciated...

Peace
