Since I calibrate all mine, the biggest thing I am curious about is if the 2017 models get a DV reference file so they can be calibrated in DV mode. The 2016's won't be it seems.

I wont buy another display until I know for sure it has a golden reference file for dolby vision and can be calibrated in that mode.

I do think the 2017 models you can calibrate DV,but the 2016 models will not get that luxuery.

Nothing is out yet, but it was reported by Kris Deering that they would get a 2017 reference file for cal. Up until now, only 2016 Vizio had issued one which is hilarious.

If you have been troubled with excessive noise, macro blocking, and pxialesion in dark scenes,espeically when watching low bit content on the 2016 B6-C6 -E6 then you pleased to know that has improved alot on 2017 models.

People fawn over DV, my issue is you cant calibrate that mode, but you can cal HDR10. Flopping back and forth, DV looks good, but I like HDR10 since it is calibrated. In the stock 50 brightness, mine crushes a ton of black in DV Dark, and the light output was set way to low.

can you elaborate on this? are you saying that there isn't any standard for calibrating Dolby Vision? because I thought that was the case with HDR, too.

Well I woke up this morning & the dead pixel was gone....weird but I'll take it .

If you have the correct gear, a proper HDR10 calibration is not hard to do, especially on 2016 and up OLED's. 2015's had no grayscale controls, so they sucked IMO and had poor tone mapping, I had one. The E6, cal'd in HDR mode, looks outstanding.

Here is the Chad B info on DV:

Q: What about 4K, HDR and Dolby Vision?

A: Standard 4K calibrates exactly like normal 1080P. However, HDR10 and Dolby Vision calibration requires some specific tools, like CalMAN 2016 and an HDR capable pattern generator, which are used in Chad B's ISF calibration. With these standards at their infancy, there can be some significant limitations as to what can be done in HDR10 and DV modes. DV calibration requires Golden Reference files to be published by Dolby for the particular model of display being calibrated; currently those files are available for the Vizio reference series. HDR10 and DV will be calibrated as much as possible with compatible displays.

In 2017, LG said their models would get DV reference files issued, but if they don't, you can't calibrate the modes past oled light, contrast, and a couple of other insignificant things.

Too many people think DV is the HDR savior, when in fact like HDR10, many displays won't do it correctly. The whole thing is amusing, not.

I have had a stuck/flasher in the bottom right corner for a couple of months. It shows up rarely, and then is gone the next day. Luckily it never lasts.

Purchased a LG 65" 'C"...curved Oled 3D tv...should be here in a few more days. Called Squaretrade and asked about the two most important things to me. Power surges and screen burn in. The sales rep said they covered both. So I bought it. After looking at the policy they e-mailed me...line "N" says they do NOT cover burn in. So I called back to ask again. Got a different rep who said yes they do. I asked what line "N" meant then. He said hold on. After a few minutes he returned to the phone and said they do NOT cover burn in on TV's after all.

Just wanted to share info and ask if folks know of a company (extended warranty) that covers burn in??

WTF..Rocky never said OLEDs can get burn in. He actually knocked plasma for image retention.

mines at 54 with a 2.2 gamma ,i think the calibrators job is to get u the most accurate picture ,not maintain zero black .

Dave, your brightness setting is 100% correct for your specific E6

So that has believed that what we do with brightness is wrong to get an accurate picture.

well, that kinda makes me feel justified in going w/ 52 vs. 51. but of course, that's just one dude's opinion. even w/o a pro-calibration, the brightness range on my set, no doubt, lies between 50 and 54. ...and it really isn't that hard to choose what is best to the eyes w/ such a narrow range.

Two ways to get a decent picture on Netflix is

1
Oled light 100-87
Contrast 46-58
Brightness 51
2
Oled light 50
Contrast 75
Brightness 50

Those 2 settings will crush blacks of course,but you don't have to mess with green 2pt etc.

On my B6

With those 2 settings their is no noise in the picture on Netflix or in skyfall scene.

So to get a good picture is only 1 way without a pro calibration is to crush those blacks.

All it would take is a firmware from LG to unlock DV white balance menu

I tried to rewatch Glitch ep. 1 with brightness 51, low point at default 0, gamna 2.2, oled light 50-65 and I can see the pixelation you were talking about.
Once I switch back to my custom settings pixelation is gone

I love a dark picture. We get too caught up sometimes in trying to squeeze out every fine detail out of dark scenes...if that was the case LED tvs with raised blacks do a much better job.
