"I was a little surprised and I expected that Microsoft would have come up more because of the massive one year advantage that it had over Sony when it released Xbox 360. However, there is an argument that going forward Sony will have the advantage with PS3 over the Xbox 360 because Microsoft came to the market early with an inferior product and may even have hurt itself."
http://www.itwire.com.au/content/view/11424/532/ Those 100 million blu-ray owners are going to want their discs...good news. |

M$ reacts after things are already out there. So they let the market drive the product instead of using innovation. Once they find a market they want to be in they begin reverse engineering and marketing.
XBOX vs PS2, Windows vs. Mac OS, M$ wireless mouse vs. Logitech wireless mouse, IE vs. Netscape, HD-DVD vs. Blu, etc. They are leeches...rich leeches. |

"Philipson believes the strong brand loyalty to Sony consoles will result in PS3 emulating the success of PS2 and PS1, which each sold more than 100 million units worldwide."
I remember doing a poll on the issue of PS3 worldwide sales by 2011. Not many agreed with my "prediction" of 100M + but good to see someone paid to predict agrees. ![]() P.S. Yes, I know someone is Bound to predict an outlier (if thats what the 100M figure turns out to be) ![]() |

I don't think M$ is really serious about gaming. If the company was truly concerned about making money" for shareholders" through it's home entertainment division ! it would stop making game systems. M$ views the gaming industry as another conquest. The objective of M$ is so clear now which is to show the gaming industry that big bad ... MICRO$OFT will dominate media entertainment. Sony will win because the company has an innovative system and a powerful gaming strategy. From a business and financial perspective the M$ systems are failures.

Perhaps Microsoft misunderstood the reason for PS2's success - it wasn't just being cheaper, or being earlier to the market, but that the PS2 was able to re-invent a market that accomodates 100+ million customers. I doubt that the original Xbox was deliberately shoehorned into the hardcore niche. It seems the 360 may be suffering the same - have they really expanded beyond their old Xbox1 crowd (who no doubt had their spirits renewed and encouraged by aggressive quasi-technological preachings running amok in the online spaces)? This has got to be staring in their faces right now.
But being cheaper and earlier is exactly what the 360 is. The marketing advantages are obvious - it has allowed observations of the technological inferiority of the console to be censored. Instead, the usual internet arguments about how "lesser is better", is forced upon everyone else. Does this remind you of HD DVD vs Blu-ray? If 360's strategy were simply to be "earlier" and "cheaper", then it is already beaten by PS2. It didn't work with HD DVD also. "Earlier" and "cheaper", last I checked, are not product features either, despite what some would have you believe. Last edited by onanie; 04-19-2007 at 10:25 AM. |

HD-DVD can die a horrible death. I have a PS3 and I am an avid gamer, but
I like my 360 way more than I like my PS3 as a gaming platform right now. That will probably change though once the PS3 has more titles. I'm always reading in these forums that content is key; I agree. |

I expect the PS3 to overtake the X360 before the decade ends (before 2010).
I don't care if it wins 1st or 2nd place against the Nintendo Wii. Heck, I won't complain if even Nintendo wins this gen. All I care is for "WiiPS3" to dominate this gen. Screw all those who believe in that "Wii60" bullcrap (after MS downplayed the Wii two months ago). The XBOX 360 can go down to last place and it should before year 2010 ![]() |

not to sure about that, If you want to buy a game you go buy one and play it, if there is nothing out or new you look else where or put in a old game. I think its just taking time because there is so much detail to put into the games and because of that its going to be a bit longer before there is a decent stock of games to pick from. I want grand theft auto 4 now but i dont have the urge to run out and by GI jane because its the closest blu-ray thing that will play on my ps3 (ps nor will i ever get gi jane no matter how good it looks)

I'm not sure I see the PS3 selling 100 million unless it maintains at least a 7 year lifecycle but, and I've been saying this for a while, I have no doubt that in 2-3 years the PlayStation platform will, once again, have the largest, total, userbase of any of the next-gen consoles. It will remain 2nd to the Nintendo Wii in Japan, but 1st in NA and the PAL regions.
MS' headstart has been exposed for what it really was: a poorly planned, forceful push to release a console that wasn't ready, hardware wise, to withstand even normal use. I think it was 1up who said it best in a "future predictions" piece some time ago when they wrote "in 2007 and beyond people will admit Sony was right about a lot of things." I think so too.
