Looks like Arrow has the rights to Suzuki's Eight Hours of Terror, which is screening as part of a Suzuki program at the American Cinematheque in February. Presumably it will be in vol.2 of Suzuki: The Early Years.

My copy of the "Four Film Noir Classics" box set showed up yesterday. It's a handsome set, and the box is sturdily constructed. It also comes with a reversible poster for The Big Combo and Secret Beyond the Door. I'm thankful I was able to pick it up before it goes out of print.

Ditto, on all points.

Yea, Rod Steiger over-acts, but that’s pretty much what he does most of the time.

Terror in a Texas Town, however, is much weaker. Joseph H. Lewis (Gun Crazy, The Big Combo), postponed retirement to direct it as a favor for a friend. Unfortunately, the production values don’t rise above the usual TV western of the period and the actors, aside from Sterling Hayden and his in-and-out accent, are not memorable. The weakest point for me, however, is the lack of a strong villain. Sebastian Cabot just doesn’t cut it, nor do any of his henchmen.

Obviously, opinions can differ, but that’s my two cents.
I really enjoy "The Big Knife". Steiger's performance is essentially a full-length version of his batshit crazy scene in "The January Man".

Ordered a few movies from Arrow UK about 3 weeks ago. Still waiting for them to arrive. I was told it usually takes them 2 to 3 weeks to deliver overseas so I really hope they arrive this week.

I just received my sale items yesterday, that I ordered on the 30th of Dec. So yeah, about two weeks. And I'm on the East Coast. Was happy to see Ronin still had a slipcover. Was told that people weren't getting one, so don't know what was going on there.

Wow, crazy. Harvey Keitel is the calmest one in the room.

Danny Aiello's face is hilarious after Steiger finishes his rant. Aiello has a look like, "I think this guy may actually be insane."

Also, one of my favorite blind buys is Naked Face with Rod and Roger Moore. Most people trash the film but I love it, mostly because I love Rod and Roger. Steiger is absolutely crazy in it, and I found it hard not to smile or laugh anytime he was onscreen flipping out

Thanks for the heads up on this, I put in an order on Amazon UK. I see no other retailer has this right now so it must being going OOP soon. Looks like a good one to add to the collection

New promo video from Arrow for CAT O'NINE TAILS -- based on the clips here, it looks gorgeous. Also, date bump to 2/13.

For a B movie it's very well written. Screenwriter was Dalton Trumbo; who was on the blacklist and is credited under a pseudonym. The film is very much in the vein of old cowboys having an existential crisis in the dying days of the west. It gets extra points for somehow making an over the top finale involving a standoff with a whaling harpoon seem plausible. 6.5/10

The Big Knife is pretty bad. It's easily the weakest Aldrich film I've seen and I have no idea why Arrow released this. It's an adaptation of a stage play and feels very inert. Aldrich doesn't open the film up all that much and it consists mostly of long dialogue scenes set in the study of Jack Palance's mansion. The dialogue is so purple and overwrought that it's hard to take the themes of the film seriously. The music serves to punctuate and underscore the already over the top dialogue to the point that the film is almost unpleasant to even watch. Not recommended! 4/10
I'm a big fan of TERROR IN A TEXAS TOWN. Sterling Hayden is one of my favorite actors so that doesn't hurt. I love that the movie came up with such an implausible final act and somehow made it pay off.

THE BIG KNIFE didn't work for me either. I found it mostly boring and occasionally painful, but I haven't watched it in many years. I might have a different take now. I'm looking forward to revisiting TERROR IN A TEXAS TOWN on Blu-ray... if my sale shipment ever arrives.

On a somewhat related note, my favorite spear gun scene is Carol Lynley popping a child's balloon with her spear gun in ONCE YOU KISS A STRANGER (revealing her to be beautiful, but psychologically unbalanced.

I watched JD's Revenge last night. I really liked it! It's quite well written for a blaxploitation film and surprisingly violent. The murder in which our antihero is out to revenge is set in a meat packing shop; which offers lots of flashbacks to pools of blood and severed cow eyeballs. The scenes involving switchblades are comparably nasty that most slasher fans would be appreciative. The sex and nudity in the film is far more disturbing than it is erotic. JD"s way with women is violent and there's a horrific rape scene. Also some crazy incest involving JD and his niece. Trashy, disturbing and well made! Big thumbs up. 7/10
