Because the universe is cruel to fans? I'm just hoping they don't make that mistake, that's all.

Amen, brother. "5.1 down mix mono" be damned. Original mono with the original foley effects, please.

Would it be a good idea to remind Kino about the correct Mono as well?

MGM actually managed to provide it in a silent update of the 4K remaster (the first edition contains the wrong mono audio downmixed from 5.1). Still, it would be nice if Kino used a better codec than 192 kbps DD 1.0 for it.

By the way, the colors after Kino's tweaking look rather like the IB Tech print: still warm in the faces, but with actual blue skies:

Yep, I had that V2 release. Sold it off when this was announced.

As much as I love that T-Shirt I won't pay more than $15 or so for that one or any other T-Shirt. I have about 20 or so Star Wars T-Shirts and the most I paid for any of them was about $17.

It's probably my favorite film. You won't regret it.

That's a good policy. I was able to use a 10% off code for the above shirt, since I was a first time customer.

A lossless unscrubbed mono track.

Given that the 4K master does look like film, unlike the Mondo, that's no surprise. In terms of color, the major flaw is the yellowish-teal cast. KL needs to address the excess green as well. The problem is KL is attempting to reverse the damage of the 4K master and they can only go so far. They also can't reverse the black crush, which is a separate issue.

Have Kino said what they've used as their benchmark for the colour?

If they've just heard people say "It's too yellow", so they've altered it to be 'a bit less yellow', that's hardly cause for any rejoicing at all.

The MGM is either right or it's wrong. If it's right, then Kino are wrong to change it. If the MGM is wrong, then just deciding to 'make it a bit less yellow' is just as likely to be wrong.

You keep saying this, time and time again.

But no offence to you, I don't trust anyone's memory of what they saw in a cinema.

The restoration was apparently done referencing original materials.

I'm not the sort of person to say it's definitely right, but I'm afraid your personal view of what you saw in the cinema is not strong enough evidence for me.

And that's not intended as offence. I wouldn't trust anyone's colour memory on something like this.

Having reference prints, and botching the restoration aren't mutually exclusive. They could have perfectly accurate prints, but if they didn't faithfully reproduce that, what good is it? They clearly manipulated the transfer digitally making it completely unnatural. If you know anything about film, then you should realize that it wouldn't have looked like that originally.

There's a mountain of evidence showing that Ritrovata once again botched a transfer, there's no need to re-tread again. Just read through the original thread for its release. It's not like this is new for them, they have a slew of restorations that have this same exact kind of look. This just happens to be the one they got right? When there's other prints that suggest otherwise? Yeah, right..

Yeah, it'd be nice to have a lossless encode of the mono.

I have a feeling this thread is going to be unbearable upon this release. Back and forth bickering between the half who love the release and the other half who will cry foul on the image or audio.
