"3D" stickers from now on? - Blu-ray Forum

Since in the UK most steelbooks now have stickers for the age ratings. I think the same should be applied to "3D" monikers that are used to sell the steelbook if and when a 3D disc is present.

I have no problem with studios using "3D" on the cover, but if its removable and done tastefully people can opt to leave it or remove it. The last thing I want to see on my wall of steelbooks is "3D" written everywhere. In years to come it will either die out or become the norm so its going to become more of an eyesore then than it is now.

It ruined "Man of Steel", it ruined "Godzilla" and now its somewhat ruined "Edge of tomorrow".

What do you think?

Sorry, but I disagree with you. Love 3D, have zero issue with it being added to the titles of movies. Honestly wish that it happened even more frequently than it does now. I understand how you might not like it, but for me I've actually passed on several steelbooks that don't come with the 3D copy. Function > packaging.

I also get that your main argument might just be it showing 3D in the title and not just its inclusion of the disk in the set. As far as that goes, wouldn't be a big deal to me either way, but I do have my regular Blu Rays separated from my 3D ones and having it in the title helps keep them organized and uniform.

There are a lot of people (not necessarily you, OP) who crap on 3D and I get that it might not be your thing. But don't ruin it for those of us who love it by running around spreading your nonsense about how you think it's garbage. There are very good home theatre 3D systems and if you're basing it off limited experience with bad 3D systems then you're missing out.

There are already a couple of threads on this topic of "3D printed on steelbooks or not."

My $0.02 is that the title does not require 3D in it unless THE ONLY VERSION INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE is the 3D version. If it contains a 2D copy, then 3D is a supplement/extra/bonus feature and belongs on the J-card with the rest of the technical specifications. After all, you don't see "1080P" and/or "7.1 DTS HD MA" added to the titles of every other steelbook, do you? And those are both key elements of how the film is presented in those packages.

I can agree with that. It isn't totally necessary to have 3D written in the title - but it just doesn't matter all that much in the end. Whether it does or doesn't... buy and collect whatever you like. There are multiple versions and alternatives to pretty much every release these days. If having 3D on the title is such a problem, don't buy it?

So far I have been able to avoid 3D on my steelbooks thanks to FutureShops lack of use in the title. There has been 1 or 2 released here with 3D in the title, but it is not common. Then again, they don't include a 3D copy most of the time either.

So you don't like 3D and you don't have a 3D setup. hmmm,... how about not buying a 3D movie.

If the movie i buy is IN 3D, well, i have no problem with the packaging saying so. In some instances the movie is in 3D but doesnt say so anywhere on the steelbook. Thats fine with me too.

All I am saying is that we should have a choice if 3D is in the title or not.

A transparent sticker in the right location would give people the choice of leaving it or ripping it off. I don't see the problem with choice.

Try to see this as a steelbook thread, I am not wanting to debate the merits of 3D technology as it has nothing to do with what I am talking about.

I will do my best to avoid buying a steel book with huge "3D" printed on it. So ugly and annoying? Why the heck should that be artwork. A sticker? Now, that would be nice!
