These companies should have learned from Marvel's mistake of licensing / selling certain rights to their properties to other companies without putting certain conditions in place.

Um, WB do hold controlling interest rights. This is for a minority stake, specifically the 15-20% share owned by the financing partner.

This is actually pretty normal.

They would have sold the rights for broadcasting years ago for a specific amount of money and time. When the contracts run out they will have broadcast rights back. Disney has the same issue with Star Wars, that expire at the end of 2019.

It's the "copyrights in perpetuity" line that flummoxed me. Had no idea they signed over the copyrights like that, and what possible good are they? If I bought the Justice League rights, I'd only own 20% of it; not like I could make a sequel without WB approving of it.

The contracts should have had a stipulation by which the licenses would become invalid if WB creates their own streaming or broadcast service. What I don't get is why WB would sell licenses to the broadcasting and streaming rights to their properties when they could have broadcast their content on CW, half of which they own.

No one was thinking about streaming when those movies were negotiated.

Imo WB should have all DC licenses taken away. They've ruined the DCU. Might as well have Disney take it over, let Kathleen Kennedy SJW/PC or even more and have rian Johnson do a trio.....

At least marvel had some cohesion at the top, though I'd argue Iron Man and Winter Soldier is their best films.

WB has made more re-watchable, great DC property films than Disney has Marvel.

Since I brought up the CW, I've got a question about it. Why didn't Warner Bros create their own television network / channel rather than create the join-venture with CBS in the form of the CW Network?

The CW was the WB network.

So you are saying if one entity absorbs the assets of another entity, the new entity is not what was once the old entity? So the CW just appeared out of no where and was not the remnants of the WB network and UPN?

What you originally said was that the CW Network is simply a rebranding of the WB Network or a new version of the WB Network, which is false; your original words were 'The CW was the WB.' However, one of the owners of the CW Network is CBS, which had absolutely nothing to do with the WB Network, which alone invalidates the CW Network as just a rebranding of the WB Network or a new version of it. Legally, the CW is a completely different entity from the WB.
