Thanks! The 4K looks great...just waiting for A Clockwork Orange now.
Wow! Congratulations and keep going! But noo carbs and sugars sounds really hard for me...
But I think the best option really is to reduce your sugar and sweets consume, even if its really hard.

I agree with that House music is the best for doing sports!

Once you kick the sugars and sweets you'll go through a small withdrawal period but you'll feel a lot better once your body has adjusted.

I've been slacking as of late so I need to get back on track. It definitely happens to all of us!

BS about the sugar, I gave sweets up for lent and now am back to my sugar loving ways, of course I am also 6' 161 lbs at 47 years old, I like to enjoy my sweets, but I do not want to gain weight doing it. I rarely drink, dont smoke, dont drink coffee... sweets are my one true vice...

How to Lose Weight:

Take your Weight
Divide it in Half
Add 30-40 (Round to nearest full number)

Drink that amount of water a day for a week.
Lose Weight Faster: Round to either a gallon/half gallon and drink that a day (128/192oz) for about a week.

I snuck in a quick bit of old school tae-bo just now since I didn't get my daily walk/bicycle walk - good lord, the 30 min. workout was brutal in the beats of the music and at one point in the middle of it, I was totally not figuring out the leg/arm motions AT ALL ... I just did a little jig/dance til the next reps/motion... sheesh, I was sweating like a hog.

peoples problems with losing weight is trying to do too much at once... they give everything up cold turkey, hit some insane workout schedule and give up easily... they also get hyped up early on when they lose a ton of water weight right off the bat from excess water weight, once the reality of losing weight sinks in (that it is tough) they fall off the wagon.

You have to be really anal about losing weight, and you have to be prepared to do it alone as well, if you are relying on someone else to workout with, you are setting yourself up for failure.

I've only had to go on a diet type lifestyle one time when I got up to 185 a decade or so ago.Took a while to lose the 30 lbs I wanted to lose, but it was done and those 30 waist pants were fitting again. Currently I keep in range of 160-165 and have kept that for the last 5 years. Gained nothing during covid because I was always out jogging, it was a small slice of normalcy for me during the time

I was surprised how easy it was to both lose and maintain weight for me. I was always a bit "thin" as a kid and it was likely the worst from around middle school and throughout college. Middle school in particular was bad because I didn't like the kids at my school and so I wasn't eating snacks or lunch in the cafeteria throughout the day. Also didn't eat breakfast before school. So I'd essentially have 0 calories/protein/carbs/fat until the late evening. Don't even recall really drinking water, so I'd imagine I was often dehydrated and malnourished. Started to eat a bit more in later high school but then started to lose weight again around college due to a combination of being a typical broke student, burning too many calories exercising, and simply not eating enough. My BMI for probably about ten years was only around 17-18 and on the upper end of 'underweight.' I was definitely way too thin and not taking in enough food. Then in my mid 20s or so I went from underweight to slightly overweight and stayed there for a while. It wasn't until I started feeling terrible that I made an effort to cut out things like soda and I dropped about 15 lbs. At my heaviest I was at the higher end of overweight in the 29 BMI range. People think I look "skinny" now and I feel pretty skinny as well. But yet my BMI is on the upper end of normal of around 24. I realize BMI isn't the be-all-end-all and I'm just using it as a reference since it's easy to calculate.

Yes and no. I agree the individual needs to accountable to themselves. That being said, there are ways to work out with others. For the last 10 plus years, I've focused my workouts on "classes".

I went to Title Boxing for several years. I worked a couple years at a local gym called Health House (now in LA), which focuses on rowing and weights. Over the last 3 years I've been taking early AM classes (5am or 5:30am) at a local gym. High intensity interval training.

I know for myself, I need the class structure: Trainers telling me to do X for X time, others in the class motivate me to keep up and the timing of the class is important (earlier the better).

Many local gyms offer group classes, which allow individuals to train with others for the extra motivation. I will say you'll see many of the same people, which over time you hold each other accountable for attendance (and performance).

IMHO, the key to working out is knowing what prevents you from consistently missing classes and look for the gym structure that over comes those reasons to avoid the gym. I need early morning (before work), group classes, a good trainer to lead the class and variety of classes.

Just check your BMI and the calories that you need to maintain weight, get a caloric deficit diet, and exercise so that your body doesn't feel weak but builds muscle and helps you burn calories!

For losing weight you just need to focus on two things one is your diet and the other is your workout. If you are consuming fewer calories and burning them at the same time eventually you will easily lose weight. Just keep a count of your calories this doesn't mean that you need to eat less but you need to eat healthy and lean. Also, it is preferred to have heavy meals at the start of the day and a light dinner followed by a walk or some sort of activity for that food to be digested by your body properly.

I'm too old for this crap but...

i really need to be significantly less fat... and i lost just over 12 lbs in a week in a half. Intermittant fasting, and cutting my caloric intake by probably 50%. My issue has always been not eating breakfast, not eating lunch until almost 3pm, dinner at like 830-0... eating a bag of chips or sandwiches at 12 then bed by 2a.

I figured, if im already going 14 hours without eating as it is normally, what's another couple hours?. Now i stop eating at 10pm, other than water. bed is still 1:30-2:00. Go to work for 10, lunch at the usual 230-3 which is right around the 16 hour mark (for 16/8) fasting.

Now this is where the issue I now have. in that 8 hour window (2p-10p) of eating, I don't have the time to scarf down 2200 calories, so now my caloric intake is 1300 -> 1800. (down from probably 3800+). (Caloric defecit for the week of at least 14000) I haven't had a bag of chips in weeks, no more than half a handful of fries. still eat a burger at least once a week though.

How low is WAY too low for caloric intake though?

Make an appointment and talk to your doctor. I can tell you that 12 pounds in a week and a half is too much weight to lose.

I can only assume it was completely water weight. it's slowed way down to 2lb/week and leveled out to 26lb in 70 days.

with that said, i made the original post 3 days removed from blowing my shoulder apart at work. Im still not 100% but getting there and I basically get 0 exercise now.

1-2lbs a week is much better.

I set a goal to get down to 155 from 162, a weight I have been around for the last 7 years or so. My issue is the sugar, but once again instead of going cold turkey on everything I have began premeasuring portions, which led into my sweets fasting during lent. I am also trying for the 1000 miles for the year, of which I am on pace to hit that sometime before I turn 50 at end of December. I still eat a lot of what I want too, just not to being overstuffed. Trying to eat more leftovers at work daily instead of fast food. Was pleased to see I was currently under 1 lb from my goal. Main reason for the wanting to lose the weight, less stress on my joints when I run and having to keep up with my 4 year old daughter. Feel great so far. Even on my lent cheat days like yesterday, I don;t feel I went overboard with consuming sweets either

I hit my 155 goal (using first weighing in the morning) and have kept myself from creeping upward over 160, I still enjoy my vices like sodas (though only after work and after my running)
I knew this time of year would be a challenge, but as long as the humidity isnt unbearable I think I have adapted some to the heat. Generally load up on water and eat something before my late afternoon jog of around 4 miles or so. I did a run last week in mid 90's temps but low humidity, and it wasnt horrible. I still prefer 60 degrees or so to run, but amazing how the humidity affects things. This last sunday I got out before 6 because the heat index with humidity was already in the upper 80's and that run was tough
