Folks, let’s try to resume this thread with respectful exchanges of opinion, no matter what disagreements people may have. When the rhetoric heats up, nobody benefits. Thanks, all!

I thought it was good. Mads was good too, but no better than if Johnny Depp was still in the film. I thought Depp was fine in the second film and Colin in the first.

If Warner wants to make the fourth and fifth film that’s fine but this movie perfectly ends the trilogy if they elect not to make those films.

I’m not a Harry Potter fan and stopped watching after the first two films. I enjoyed the Fantastic Beasts series. I bought the other two so I’ll buy this one on Blu-ray.

Do yourself a huge favor and continue with the Potter series. Film 3 is where it starts to get really good; the first two are “fine” as family films.

Pretty much completely disagree. Aside from the fourth film and the fantastic beasts movies Themselves, and maybe possibly the seventh film, the rest of the movies are actually quite disappointing and not very well-made. Don’t get me wrong, The later movies do certainly have things that are better than the first two movies and even fantastic beasts, but overall they completely ruin a lot of the charm and even the whole essence of what Harry Potter truly is to the point where they even contradict themselves and not even just the first two movies where it doesn’t even seem like they work together and are truly “One big story” like what producer David Heyman keep stating. And don’t even get me started on “Dumbledore“ as well if you’ve only seen the first two when the three fantastic beasts then you’ve seen all the movies that truly have Dumbledore in them as who Michael Gambon is supposed to be playing in the movies is not Dumbledore in any kind of way at all and even if you haven’t read the books than you’ll truly know that.

Unless you are truly interested in/are a big fan of what you’ve seen of these five movies that I would even pass on the remaining Harry Potter movies, and I’m saying this is a truly major Harry Potter fan, unless you can go in with this mindset that I and trust me a lot of other people will tell you. If you do get around to seeing them, then please let us know here what do you think :-)

I liked Fantastic Beasts because it was partially set in old New York and also the mystical world.

It was like those films where it's "aliens are walking among us but we don't know" like They Live. Also Jacob was the character we humans could identify with. What? there are crazy monsters, wizards and witches in this world...who knew? Yikes!

Harry Potter was set in that school with warring gangs of kids, it just wasn't for me

I don't think they'll make the fourth and fifth films. WB may wait a few years and make a series for HBO Max with Fantastic Beasts leading into the early world of Harry Potter [prequel]

WB are hoping the controversy surrounding JK will be over by then

New WB CEO Reportedly Meeting With JK Rowling About More Harry Potter
Quote:
Warner Bros.’ new CEO David Zaslav reportedly has plans to meet with Harry Potter creator JK Rowling to discuss the beloved franchise. Much has changed since the final installment of the eight-film series was released, with the IP’s spinoff franchise, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, simply not reaching the same heights as the Potter films did. Add to this the isolating stances Rowling has taken in recent years, and its clear something needs to change.

I'm telling you, Cursed Child is happening with or without the original cast. I'm not even that bothered about the original cast returning, I'm more invested in the character of Harry Potter than the actor playing him. Just like I am more invested in Spider-Man than Tom Holland.

I think you overestimate audiences tolerance for re-casting. I mean each Spider-Man had to retconned each origin story, none of the Spider-Man iterations followed off the previous franchise (even to the point they’ve now been divided into their own contextualised internal universes).

The core audience have grown up both with the characters and actors and both are arguably synonymous with one another. You might just about get away with just bringing Radcliffe back, but I think without any major players returns I think audiences will turn away from it, looking at it as an “unofficial” sequel and a cash grab. Particularly in our strangely ‘continuity’ and ‘cannon’ obsessed fandom, people just wouldn’t entertain the fact, especially since the main selling point would be the return and nostalgia of these characters, the actors not coming back would be more of a turn off.

Cursed Child Will one day come, and I imagine funded with a blank cheque. But I imagine the meeting will be to fund HBO Max shows, and likely work out a conclusion to the Fantastic Beasts saga that’s lower on costs and pain free.

Has the door been opened for the return of Depp? That's quite a verdict. Heard looked well and truly pissed off.

Well, I’m going to repeat what I’ve been saying all along, and this can also apply to the fact that #FantasticBeastsTheSecretsOfDumbledore Is now streaming on HBO Max/crave/wherever you get HBO Max Contant and is about to come out on Blu-ray/DVD/4K On June 28 and on digital around then, so please take all of that plus the Screenplay book that’s about to come out on July 19 into consideration with the following that I’m going to say:

But Remember that if you’re refusing to see it because of #JohnnyDeppIsMyGrindelwald Then please remember that this movie needs to do well so as to give Johnny the chance to actually come back in the Later movies, For the actor who played MacNair The executioner was re-casted for prisoner of Azkaban and then came back for order of the Phoenix. The bottom line is that if #FantasticBeastsTheSecretsOfDumbledore Doesn’t do well, And they don’t make the remaining two movies, then Johnny definitely will never be back as Grindelwald!Plus you also have to remember that it’s about to be a new company with new people over seeing it, So as such you were technically not paying that company and are actually giving more of a chance than not having him actually return. Especially depending on what may happen with the results of his trial that’s going to be happening shortly after the movie comes out, the new people taking over Warner Bros. right before it comes out……

Also remember in regards to her that she doesn’t necessarily get a whole lot of money from this, as well the fact remains that as many people have pointed out that she already has so much money that not supporting the series will not really change any kind of “power“ that you may have against her, and after all the series should not suffer at all because of her for Regardless of what you may think, nothing I repeat nothing will ever ever truly take away what a series overall truly means to you let alone other people, And again it’s not The series that’s the problem at all in any kind of way :-)

Also keep in mind that even though it’s not the best example they have at least one transgender person or someone who identifies themselves as “They” in the cast so much for her transphobia……

As much as some rabid Star Wars fans would disagree, the casting in Solo is evidence that audiences do not want iconic characters recast.

On another note, Harry Potter had a definite conclusion in the books. WB should work on new or other franchises. They kind of messed up with Matrix. Dune is mind blowingly amazing, but may be too hard core sci-fi for audiences. They need to look to the future and develop something new. I suspect there are internal things that are disfunctional in their corporate office. The bone headed decision on the streaming releases almost killed major releases. They cannot figure out what to do with Superman, but at the same time they green light the Dune second part which is great on their part. I understand studios want franchises. But if you push too hard, you get an extreme loss in investment, especially now that streaming has edged on other secondary sources of income.

The general consensus is that Mads Mikkelsen gave a superior performance as Grindelwald over Johnny Depp with which, even as a Depp fan, I have to agree. If WB goes forward with the series, I guaran-damn-tee Mads is here to stay.

If that’s the general consensus then I’m happy to be in the minority. Depp did a great job. I thought Mads was very good as well.

I still stand by it was wrong for WB to replace Depp.

But what’s done is done and Johnny came out of all this bullish!t smelling like a rose.

I also think it’s wrong for WB to cut down Amber’s role in Aquaman 2. She was great in the first film and she’d be fine in 2.

WB stop pandering and let the chips fall where they may.

Just watched this tonight and I enjoyed it immensely. Wasn't bothered by the actor change, but I do wish the studios didn't cut and run at the first sign of danger. I know that the prime directive is CYA, but still...loyalty, anyone? I'll be picking up the 4K disc as soon as possible. However, I have to admit that the audio/visual presentation on MAX far surpassed my expectations. Same thing with Batman. I still much prefer having a disc in my physical library for a variety of reasons, but streaming has come a long way, hasn't it? Certainly a decent option for those without adequate storage space. Never, ever, thought I'd be saying that...

I just wanted to say that I watched this movie recently, and it's excellent. I know there is some controversy regarding the relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, but I actually found it to be a fresh take on what would have been just another lover's quarrel between a man and a woman. I didn't see anything that would be inappropriate for children who are old enough to know how the world works. There is nothing in the film that is sexually inappropriate. I can't even remember if they kissed. And of course, Newt is great. Everyone loves Newt. The cinematography is gorgeous.
