OK first of all I am a complete idiot. Secondly I have never used banana plugs before. How do I get the plug into the back of the speaker? How do I remove the red and black bits of plastic from the terminal? Do I just pull them out? Seems pretty stuck in there and I dont want to damage my new speakers.
Thanks and sorry for being an idiot ![]() |

i have a technical question about banana plugs.
i was told by an audio expert that using banana plugs is not the best cleanest signal. he told me that bare wire straight in the post and straight in the receiver post is the best connection to get? does anyone know if this is true or not? cause i use banana plugs for my front 3 speakers and bare wire for all my surrounds. |

Honestly there was no difference using bare wire or banana plugs that I ever heard when I added the banana plugs. Let your ears be the judge. |

hey guys, got a speaker wire question.
i have 12 gauge wire from my surrounds going from the speaker all the way to the receiver. i plan on getting a emotiva amp soon and may have to move my receiver over. problem is my speaker wire is almost exact length with hardly any room to stretch it over to where i plan to move it, that being all said here is my question... can you add speaker wire to existing speaker wire and if so how? do i wrap two ends together and wrap with electrical tape to add the length? i really dont want to run a whole new piece which will be a super pain the in the &$@@. any thoughts or recommendations? thanks |

I am in the market for new banana plugs. I am currently using monoprice plugs but the connection becomes loose over time. The "bulb" becomes compact inside the speaker/amp/avr and doesn't spring back very well. I have to tap the tip lightly with a hammer to "bloom" the plug almost every time. This is on ALL my plugs.
So I was over the aperion audio site and spoke to someone there about banana plugs. They suggested "saw" type plugs b/c it is a tighter fit and a larger contact area (it is the whole length of the plug rather than just the expanded sides of the bulbs). They sell this: http://www.aperionaudio.com/product/...49,38,152.aspx This led me on a search and found the Nakamichi saw style plugs suggested by several AVS forum members. Moreover, these plugs have a plastic, non conductive sleeve, unlike the monoprice version, so I dont have to put ugly shrink wrap on them. They seem to be shipped from overseas, but it comes down to $1.91/pair SHIPPED if you get 12 pairs. http://namashop.com/product-0534E24.html Has anyone tried this saw type plugs? Can anyone who has used Nakamichi plugs give their opinion of the quality and, if you have used the link above, any reviews on the store itself? Thanks everyone. |

You may also consider Spade Connectors instead of banana plugs. They are available from Ebay. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Big Daddy; 06-14-2010 at 10:37 PM. |
